If you want to go to a place that doesn't seem real, go to Snow Lake. The trailhead is located at Alpental and this stunning lake is the most visited in the Alpine Lake Wilderness. When I arrived, the parking lot was nearly full, and it was a weekday! I couldn't believe how many people were hiking - there had to have been over 200 cars there. So although I was hiking solo, I was definitely not alone. The weather was fantastic and the trail is in great condition. It took me about an hour to get to the boulder at the summit, a place where hikers enjoy the amazing views. Overlooking Snow Lake from this vantage point is incredible. After a few minutes of taking it all in, and taking a few photos, I headed down the other side toward the basin. The color of the water gets more vibrant the closer you get and the wildflowers are in bloom the entire way. Despite the number of happy hikers, the trail never felt crowded - and the lake is so big, there are plenty of places to explore. After about another hour, I found the perfect rock [with surreal views], had some lunch, took more photos, and then hiked back out with the biggest smile on my face!
