PNA TEAM SPOTLIGHT

Aimee Eckley, senior digital and recruitment specialist

What made you get into this industry?

I wasn’t sure where my career path would lead until I saw an ad for an advertising assistant position at my local newspaper. I thought it would be a great temporary job, but from Day 1 I was hooked by the exciting atmosphere.

At that time, traditional media was dominant, and every business ran ads in the paper, so our phones were constantly ringing. I was fortunate to have an advertising director and publisher who recognized the potential of emerging digital platforms and invested in my training and education so I could help our advertisers integrate digital into their plans. It’s been over two decades, and it’s even more exciting with the MANSI Media team. Technology continues to evolve; our clients have more digital choices than ever, and I still love what I do!

Do you have any advice for someone just starting out?

Always do what’s best for your clients, regardless of your industry. Being trustworthy will provide long-term benefits and that always exceeds short-term gains.

If you could have done anything differently, would you?

Part of my job involves analyzing campaign performance and making ongoing adjustments for optimal results. I try not to let that spill over into other areas of my life because second-guessing everything would be a waste of time - though I must admit there were a few animated GIFs with way too many frames, and banner ads with way too much text from the early 2000s that still haunt me, LOL.

Highlight the benefits of advertising in your paper with category-specific sales sheets

PNA produced a series of DMA-specific advertising category flyers to equip local news media sales reps with a simple solution to providing advertisers with marketing materials that highlight the benefits of print and digital advertising. Each flyer includes newspaper readership statistics from Nielsen Scarborough, along with purchase intention information from AdMall’s AudienceSCAN®, for over 70 targeted categories of business.

Simply select the DMA that corresponds with your circulation area – Erie, Harrisburg/ Lancaster/ Lebanon /York, Johnstown/ Altoona, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Wilkes-Barre/ Scranton – or the statewide version – and download the flyers. Username and password are required to access this information. Request your login information here.

We also provide training on how to interpret and utilize the information on these sheets. Please contact marketing@pa-news.org for more details.

The Importance of Effective Frequency

Repetition is a well-documented tactic for memory formation. That’s why having advertisers run an ad multiple times in your newspaper instead of a quick one-and-done appearance can help build brand recognition and customer loyalty.
