Arvin Andrada, Director, Community Service:
My Journey: From Risk Mitigation to Community Engagement
"I’m a cybersecurity professional with a passion for delivering results and mitigating risks for organizations. But beyond my professional endeavors, I find fulfillment in giving back to my community and pursuing my interests, like skiing and exploring the vibrant cityscape of NYC.
My story began when I first immigrated from the Philippines at the age of eight, just before Martial Law was enforced in my home country. Those early days were challenging, but organizations like the Salvation Army and Army-Navy Stores provided crucial support, sparking my lifelong dedication to community service.
Joining PMINYC was a pivotal decision for me. I was immediately drawn to its dynamic community of project management professionals committed to continuous learning and growth. Through PMINYC, I've had access to invaluable resources, collaboration opportunities, and mentorship, empowering me to contribute meaningfully to both my organization and the broader project management sphere.
Volunteering has always been a significant part of my life—I started volunteering at the age of 16—and joining PMINYC has amplified that passion. What I cherish most about being part of this community are the people—the supportive network that I never anticipated but am grateful for every day.
Outside of work and volunteering, you'll find me indulging in hobbies like playing the piano, hiking, catching Broadway shows, and soaking in the breathtaking views from NYC's rooftops."
Miranda Sivsivadze, Volunteer for Nonprofits, Community Service:
"Having achieved my PMP certification in 2023, I discovered a profound appreciation for PMI's pivotal role in nurturing professional development. Eager to connect with fellow project management enthusiasts, I enthusiastically joined PMINYC, fueled by a passion for continuous learning, collaboration and community engagement.
I organize Community Outreach events, support academic outreach efforts as a mentor and craft the brochure that is used for Outreach events. Volunteering isn't just about giving time—it's about making a meaningful difference in the lives of others. My commitment to PMINYC’s cause is infectious, inspiring fellow volunteers and stakeholders."
Vinesh Naicker, Program Manager, Day of Service:
"Being a civil engineering project manager is incredibly rewarding. Every day, I get to see the tangible results of the project teams’ hard work and our impact on society and the natural environment.
Joining the Project Management Institute New York (PMINYC) has been incredibly beneficial to my professional development. The resources and networking opportunities provided by PMI have been invaluable. I’ve been able to learn from experts, learn best practices, connect with peers, and get involved in community outreach events.
The knowledge and skills I have gained from PMI has increased my understanding of project management principles, and my confidence to efficiently execute projects and achieve successful outcomes for me, my teams, my company, my clients, and the community."
Manisha Singh, Co-Program Manager University Outreach, Academic Outreach:
"As a member of PMINYC and a Master’s student in Project Management at NYU, I have deeply valued the blend of cultural and professional insights. My involvement in organizing significant events through the PMINYC Outreach has sharpened my skills in managing complex projects. These experiences have allowed me to lead diverse teams, optimize resources, and execute strategic plans effectively under pressure.
Joining PMI has been transformative; it not only enhanced my technical abilities but also offered invaluable networking opportunities that enriched my understanding of global project management practices. This integration of community and professional growth has been instrumental in my journey, allowing me to excel in both academic and real-world settings, fostering a deeper appreciation for the nuances of project leadership in diverse environments."
