Photo Book on Oct 7th Available for Viewing

On a recent trip to Israel, PJC member Larry Cohen attended a moving exhibit of photographs from October 7th. He purchased a book that features many of those images and shares the story of what happened that day. We are thankful that Larry is temporarily loaning that book to the PJC, and members can visit the office to view the book.

Elul Workshop

The Jewish month immediately preceding the High Holidays is traditionally a time of reflection, renewal, and return. It is also a time when we direct our attention to ultimate concerns - to the never-ending cycle of life and death, to the ethics of covenant that give our lives meaning despite our fragility.

This year we’ll explore the long history and practice of composing a tzava’ah–an ethical will. Over three weeks we’ll have an opportunity to read examples of tzava’ot from throughout Jewish history and also to compose our own. During our last session those who want to will have an opportunity to share what they’ve written.

Dates: September 3, 10, and 24

Time: 7:30 - 9:00 pm

Rabbi Resnick has written a book! Come celebrate its release at the PJC with a reading, Q&A, and book signing on Monday, September 16 from 7:00 – 9:00 pm.

PJC Book Group

The next PJC Book Group will be held Monday, Sept 23 at 8:00pm to discuss The Hebrew Teacher by Maya Arad.

Three Israeli women, their lives altered by immigration to the United States, face challenges.

Ilana is a veteran Hebrew instructor at a Midwestern college who has built her life around her career. When a young Hebrew literature professor joins the faculty, she finds his post-Zionist politics pose a threat to her life’s work. Miriam, whose son left Israel to make his fortune in Silicon Valley, pays an unwanted visit to meet her new grandson and discovers cracks in the family’s perfect façade. Efrat, another Israeli in California, is determined to help her daughter navigate the challenges of middle school and crosses forbidden lines when she follows her into the minefield of social media.



In these three stirring novellas - comedies of manners with an ambitious blend of irony and sensitivity - celebrated Israeli author Maya Arad probes the demise of idealism and the generation gap that her heroines must confront.
