Exciting Times - Stay Tuned

Domaine Frédéric Esmonin

Domaine Frédéric Esmonin, from Burgundy's Gevrey - Chambertin appellation, is a true family collaboration that consists of Frederic, his father, André, and his mother, Michele. They have been farming their 10-acres of family vineyards for generations and selling their fruit to the likes of Drouhin, Jadot, and Leroy!

In 1988 they began to commercialize their own labels today they are producing consistently high-quality, beautiful wines that represent a great value considering their pedigree.

Access to some of the best vineyard plots in the region is Esmonin’s greatest fortunes. Today they have Grand Cru parcels in Ruchottes-Chambertin (50+ Year Old Vines), Mazis-Chambertin (40+ Year Old Vines), Chambertin Clos de Beze, Bonnes-Mares and Chambertin. They also have Premier Cru parcels in Gevrey-Chambertin: "Estournelles St-Jacques," "Lavaux St-Jacques," "Champonnets." The rest comes from: Gevrey-Chambertin "Les Jouises Vieilles Vignes," Nuits "Hauts Pruliers," Gevrey "Clos Prieur," Pernand Vergelesses "Les Boutieres," Cote de Nuits Village "La Belle Vue," and Bourgogne Hautes Cotes de Nuits. And since the best Burgundy wines start with the best grapes, Esmonin uses their decades of farming experience to optimize these plots.

But farming is only part of what they do well. Esmonin also employs winemaking techniques that are gentle to the grapes and produce the finest possible quality level. Using a new bladder-press, Esmonin has excellent control over the amount of pressure exerted on the grapes, which are picked only when they have reached ideal ripeness. After a short cold maceration gives the wines an extra dimension of fruit, they are aged in carefully selected French oak barrels of Allier and Nevers forest wood made by Radoux and Berthomieu, two of the very best coopers. Wines are aged in barrels of varying age and toast and then blended in order to achieve optimum balance and complexity. The domaine ages its wines in wooden casks for between 14 to 17 months. Typically, the grand cru and Lavaut Saint-Jacques Premier Cru wines see 80 percent new oak, whereas the village-level wines are aged in 20 percent new oak. Racking only takes place when the wine is ready to be bottled (without filtration).

Domaine Frédéric Esmonin

"Les Montvrières" Pinot Noir 2021

Ardeche, Northern Rhone, FR

(yes, one wine from outside of Burgundy!)

$20 btl/retail

VARIETAL/WINEMAKING: 100% Pinot Noir from the Western part of the Northern Rhone, Ardeche is a region that also encompasses the famous appellations of Saint-Joseph and Cornas. This region features a warm Mediterranean climate, benefited by cool northern Mistral winds that travel down the Rhone Valley. Here, pebbly shallow soils with limestone drain freely and stress vines, leading to good concentration in the grapes. This region has a long history of grape growing back to 17th century.

TASTING NOTES: Les Montvrières Pinot Noir is a classic Burgundy style Pinot Noir with bright red fruit notes of fresh cherry and strawberries. It is bright and smooth in the mouth with nice freshness and layers of flavor delivering excellent length on the palate. Juicy profile meant to be enjoyed young.

PAIRING: A versatile option pre-dinner for your appetizer spread that drinks fresh with balanced fruit and brightness.

Domaine Frédéric Esmonin

Bourgogne "Les Genevrières" 2022

Burgundy, FR

$34 btl/retail

VARIETAL/WINEMAKING: 100% Pinot Noir.

TASTING NOTES: Les Genevrieres glows light red in the glass, yielding aromas of tart cranberry, ripe strawberry, and hints of brown spices. On the palate, soft cherry fruit eases into fleshed-out raspberry elements. The finish is bright and elongated, tying together a very charming, easy-to-drink Burgundy.

PAIRING: A great food pairing with roasted chicken, mild cheeses and dishes with eggplant.

Domaine Frédéric Esmonin

Bourgogne Hautes Côtes de Beaune 2021

Burgundy, FR

$40 btl/retail

VARIETAL/WINEMAKING: 100% Pinot Noir.

TASTING NOTE:  This is a lush, expressive Pinot Noir from one of Burgundy's most esteemed producers. Dark cherry fruit and mellow floral notes about, while the palate is elegant and refined.

PAIRING: Versatile enough for your favorite dishes, including pot roast, herb crusted pork roast, and vegetarian cuisine featuring tofu & seitan.

Domaine Frédéric Esmonin

Gevrey-Chambertin "Clos Prieur" 2022

Burgundy, FR

$68 btl/retail

VARIETAL/WINEMAKING:   100% Pinot Noir from the north of the Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin is world-famous, not only for its superlative Grand Crus, but also for all its other vineyards. On the south part of the village, the Clos Prieur Premier Cru is close to Mazis-Chambertin.

TASTING NOTE: Supple in texture, this red boasts cherry, black currant, graphite and earth notes. Starts out very elegant for the appellation, picking up firm tannins and more weight on the long finish.

PAIRING: Does well with grilled veggie shish kebabs (particularly mushrooms) or your favorite marinated beef selection also on a skewer over an open flame.
