Hello Peter Hobart Community,
Happy Black History Month and World Hijab Day! Our Peter Hobart PTO has done a great job of finding ways to celebrate the contributions of African Americans and to honor and recognize their sacrifices. They have curated list designed to give families some ideas and activities that might work for you to help celebrate and start conversations around African American contributions this month. We will share part of the list each week here on the PH Communicator. Please also subscribe to the PTO Newsletter so you don't miss great resources like this as well as upcoming events!

Feb 4th: In 2016, Louis Hunter, the owner of Trio Plant-Based, attended a protest after his cousin Philando Castile was killed in a police-involved incident. Falsely accused of throwing rocks at police officers, Hunter faced 20 years in prison if convicted of the charges. With the help of local allies, the charges were dropped. Soon after, Hunter started pop-ups to give back and serve his community healthy and tasty food. Each one sold out. The community raised over $50,000 for a permanent restaurant, which soon became one of Lake Street’s pride and joy: Trio Plant-Based, the Twin Cities’ first Black-owned vegan restaurant.
*Feb 5th: Join us at our Winter PTO Meeting, from 6:30-8pm, where we hear from Peter Hobart and District leadership about academic-related data of Peter Hobart. We will listen, learn, provide parent insight, and together work towards academic rigor and excellence for all of our students at Peter Hobart. Pizza and childcare will be provided.
