Celebrate Juneteenth in Sonoma County

Juneteenth — a day of learning about and honoring the Black American experience through communal celebrations — originated nearly 160 years ago in a city on the Texas Gulf Coast.

Juneteenth festivities in Sonoma and Napa counties include food, music and community gatherings, and events range from film screenings to block parties and jazz jubilees.

Petaluma West Side Stories - June: Glory Days

West Side Stories Petaluma believes that everyone has a story. Their goal? To give those stories a forum. After producing successful shows where stand-up comedians told their stories, former comic turned storyteller, Dave Pokorny sought to accommodate all those people who asked, “When can I tell my story?” And to encourage those people who doubted they had a story worth telling.

Petaluma Pete Leaves Petaluma

After 16 years calling Petaluma home, John Maher -- aka Petaluma Pete -- is moving, with his wife Brenda, to Southern California.

Friends and fans gathered for a farewell celebration to honor Petaluma Pete's years of spirited sidewalk piano playing and commitment to community service. Petaluma’s mayor Kevin McDonnell presented him with a key to the city fashioned by Heritage Salvage’s Michael “Bug” Deakin, which included actual recycled piano keys, on which notes and well-wished were written.

PETALUMA PEOPLE SERVICES CENTER

S.A.F.E. PROGRAM

Specialized Assistance For Everyone

The City of Petaluma partnered with Petaluma People Services Center to bring our community the SAFE (Specialized Assistance for Everyone) Program in July of 2021. The goal of the SAFE team is to address crisis response, prevention, and intervention for our most vulnerable community members experiencing mental health issues, substance abuse issues, and homelessness. This mobile crisis response team approach provides more efficient and successful outcomes for crisis response, intervention, and treatment for the long-term improvement of our community and individual quality of life.

The SAFE Team are civilian first responders who will respond to & proactively address calls for service that have traditionally (and unnecessarily) burdened law enforcement, emergency medical services, and health care providers.

If you need the SAFE Team’s services, you may reach them via:

  • Call 911 – An emergency dispatcher will answer and determine if your situation requires the SAFE team, first responders such as police, fire, paramedics, or a combination of both.

  • Call 707.781.1234 – You will reach a directory where you can speak with a 911 operator or a non-emergency staff member to help.

SIGN UP FOR EMERGENCY ALERTS
