By & for those affected by Parkinson’s disease | |
|
We continue to hear from PD Active members how important it is to get together in person. In response, the PD Active board is working to create more opportunities for us to gather together. This month, we have our first in-person Speaker Forum since Covid, with Professor Richard Ivry at UC Berkeley. In-person classes and activities including Zumba, BrainFit, Pickleball and Ping Pong continue to be great places to gather, work up a sweat, make new friends and have fun! And speaking of fun, we encourage you to save the date for our Fall Gathering in the Park on October 13.
Please don’t forget to fill out the PD Active Annual Survey here. Your feedback is very important to the PD Active Board of Directors.

The Healthy Brains Act Introduced in the US House of Representatives
If passed, the Healthy Brains Act would fund investigation into environmental risk factors, and how exposure to harmful chemicals, contribute to the development of eurodegennerative diseases, including Parkinson’s and atypical Parkinsonisms. It will provide, for the first time, a concerted and permanent federal effort to examine potential causes of neurodegenerative disease.
Ask your congressperson to sign on to the bill. More information here.

Remembering Frances Tobriner
One of PD Active's earliest members, Frances Zavala Tobriner, died on July 18th, 2024. Her husband, Stephen Tobriner, was always at her side and he served on the PD Active Board for a number of years. Together they participated in every event and Frances helped found the PD Active singing group, Tremolos. Frances never wanted her life to be defined by Parkison's even though she lived with PD for 36 years. Read her full obituary on BerkeleySide.
