REV. DAVID WELLS RE-ELECTED AS

PAOC GENERAL SUPERINTENDENT

David Wells was re-elected to serve his fifth, four-year term as General Superintendent of the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada at their General Conference on May 14, 2024.

Dave and Susan have sacrificed so faithfully in the service of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Please read this prayer from David:

“First, as part of our alignment with global prayer movements, our focus is on intercession as the church's primary mission.

I am praying the passion and aptitude to be witnesses will recapture us. I am also seeking to honour those gifted as evangelists calling them to train the whole body of Christ to be His witnesses.

I am praying for our Multiply Network and those who are leading the way to multiply disciple-making communities among us.

We are trusting the “Lord of the Harvest” to provide laborers—specialized personnel on mission in Canadato go and be among Canadians who seem far from and even ignorant of God and His liberating truth.

I continue to pray for vital churches and ministries that are engaged in global missions where we seek to see the entire population of the planet (more than eight billion people) have a Spirit-empowered witness of Jesus.

We desire to reach, disciple, and develop the callings of children, youth, and young adults. Our clear conviction is that those who are younger will lead us into the future God has for His people

My continual prayer is for this generation to arise with this strong sense of calling so that the Lord’s mission will be accomplished

I pray that my generation will prepare the way through spiritual battle, mentoring, modeling, and provision of opportunity so that the next generation, with love for God and others, and will fulfill His mission in greater ways than we can even imagine.

Lord, hear our prayers in all these areas we long for. Close the gaps, and let vision become reality. For Your glory, Amen.”

WORLD PRAYER CENTER HOLDS WEEK OF FOCUSED PRAYER FOR REVIVAL

by Kristel Zeylaya // AG News

Calling on leaders from across the country, the World Prayer Center hosted a week of intercessory prayer in Springfield, Missouri, focused on re-digging spiritual wells of revival.

A special prayer initiative titled “Re-digging the Wells of Revival” was held April 29—May 2, 2024, inside the World Prayer Center, a small yet influential building across the street from the Assemblies of God National Office in Springfield, Missouri.

A total of 200 people are estimated to have been present. The opening session was held at 7 p.m. on Monday, April 29, with two sessions on each ensuing day, at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m.

WOULD TIM KELLER CARE IF WE

WEREN'T STILL TALKING ABOUT HIM?

PROBABLY NOT.

By Benjamin Vrbicek // Christianity Today

For all his greatness, we should most seek to imitate the late pastor’s humility and indifference to fame.

In the spring of last year, many of us saw a photo of the late Timothy Keller sitting on a park bench. The photo was used on the cover of Collin Hansen’s biography of Keller, and it circulated the internet—on social mediablogs, and even Keller’s website—in May when he passed away.

What most of us didn’t see, however, was the banana peel lying on the bench only a couple of feet from Keller. The peel has been cropped from most versions of the photo, and understandably so. Who wants to see an ugly brown bit of organic waste in an author’s photograph?

I confess that if I were a world-famous pastor and best-selling author having my picture taken by a professional photographer, I would most certainly have moved the banana peel before someone took my picture. Who wouldn’t? But Keller didn’t seem to care.

I believe this points to a deeper character trait of Keller’s, which many observed during his lifetime of ministry: an indifference to fame and to curating an image—something many of us struggle with in the social media era. This is also part of why, I believe, he finished his race so well.

THE MARVELOUS, MESSY GIFT OF MERCY

By David C. Nitz // The Evangel, COG

Brenda has reached the end of herself. She recognizes she needs help. Her rebellious, selfish, and loose lifestyle has left her broken and in pain.

Some are glad about her situation. After all, her selfish choices have left behind a trail of wounded people.

Others feel a sense of sorrow for her. What a waste, they think. She could have done so much with her life. If only. . . .

Others will avoid Brenda. She’s not to be trusted. Better keep an eye on your wallet and your husband is the silent (or likely not-so-silent) mantra.

Yet, there are a few who will look at Brenda with an overwhelming sense of compassion. They want to help her, but it will not be easy. They may begin by simply putting an arm around her and telling her she can make it. They will come alongside her, pray for her, and keep a watchful eye for opportunities to encourage her. These are the mercy-givers, and they will likely be the difference between whether Brenda succeeds or fails in the days ahead.

Mercy is messy business. It does not run in a straight line. It is messy because life is messy. Broken people, like broken glass, usually leave shards in places we would rather be left tidy and clean.
