READ TO YOUR CHILDREN. A child who doesn’t learn to love to read will not love to read God’s Word and will be robbed of joy, perspective, and power.

2. TURN OFF THE TELEVISION. Television and social media time should be allowed sparingly and wisely.

3. TEACH YOUR CHILDREN TO BE GRATEFUL. Do all you can to deliver them from the entitlement mentality poisoning our culture that says, “I deserve this,” and “That’s not fair,” and “It’s mine, not yours.” Teach them not to be whiners. Teach them to say, “Thank you!” Teach them that money is earned; it does not appear out of nowhere. To teach them all of this, of course, requires one primary factor: that we ourselves are grateful, not whiners, and are quick to say, “Thank you.”

4. TEACH YOUR CHILDREN TO CONFESS AND REPENT BY MODELING CONFESSING AND REPENTING IN THEIR PRESENCE. Admit when you are wrong. Say “I am sorry. Please forgive me.” That posture may teach them more than you think. Grandfathers, maybe you have regrets about not having been the best father. Say “I’m sorry” to your grown kids and ask God to help you be the best grandfather you can be.

A number of years ago while doing a graveside service with a family, I saw the tombstone of a young man. I don’t know what took his life, but it was obvious that there was a family who deeply loved this young man because his grave was not left unattended—flags, flowers, and hockey paraphernalia adorned the site.

As I stood there, my heart was deeply stirred, and I thought, God is a God of second chances. My mind returned to the person I was laying to rest…a believer…this was not his final resting place. Rather, when he took his last breath—he took his first breath in heaven.

Every day is an opportunity for second chances. How many times have you said…
“I wish I could just go back.”
“I wish I could have a do-over.”
“If I got a second chance, I would take it.”

A man was sick, Lazarus of Bethany, the town of Mary and her sister Martha. This was the same Mary who massaged the Lord’s feet with aromatic oils and then wiped them with her hair. It was her brother, Lazarus, who was sick. So the sisters sent word to Jesus, “Master, the one you love so very much is sick.” John 11:13 MSG

Martha and Mary were saying, “Jesus, you have the power to change this situation!”

A true rags-to-riches story about immigrant dreams, Flamin’ Hot may be the first major motion picture about a Hispanic person with a Hispanic producer, writer, director, and leading man and woman. It is also the first-ever faith-family streaming project to debut on both Hulu and Disney+
SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Samuel Rodriguez, the president of the world’s largest Hispanic Christian organization, bestselling author, presidential advisor, political activist, and movie producer who brought us the Dove Award-winning movie, The Breakthrough, is launching his latest major motion picture, Flamin’ Hot, which launched on June 9.
Flamin’ Hot, released by Fox Searchlight Pictures, is named after the Frito-Lay snack that became a food phenomenon. It recounts the incredible story of Montañez, the son of Mexican immigrants, who grew up as a farm worker in Southern California. A school dropout who struggled with reading and writing, Montañez was a janitor at a Frito-Lay factory in Rancho Cucamonga, California, when he thought about adding chili spice to the original Cheeto chip. His initiative turned into a multibillion-dollar idea and transformed him into an executive at a multinational corporation.

U.S. missionaries with Intercultural Ministries John and Gay Davis have watched many of the Native American men and women they have taught enter into ministry. One man, a Lakota Native American named Samuel,* was in a course Gay was teaching about the Gospels. One day after class, Samuel told Gay that he would take notes on what she taught each week and reteach the information the next night in his Bible study. “My people need what you have, but they will not listen to you,” he told her. “But they will listen to me.”

“We are in a location that is very spiritually attuned. The church is alive; revival is happening,” says John. In general, however, “Christ-believing Native Americans are a small minority with even fewer pursuing ministry.”
