MY LAST 100 DAYS AS GENERAL OVERSEER
by Bishop Tim Hill // ChurchofGod.org

At the close of the 2024 General Assembly, I will have been afforded eight years of service to the Church of God denomination as its General Overseer.
Those years are part of a larger panoramic of 20 years in elected leadership consisting of two eight-year terms on the Church of God Executive Committee and four years directing the ministries of Church of God World Missions.
Considering an additional eight years of leadership at other full-time levels, I have spent more than a third of my life in an office connected with an election or an appointment originating at the International Offices of the Church of God.
It is hard to imagine, but in that time, Paula and I have visited almost 3,000 different congregations around the world while logging an almost unbelievable amount of air miles traveling to visit our church in more than 100 nations of the world. There’s nothing really impressive about all of that travel. It just indicates that we have spent many nights away from our home and grandchildren.
We are grateful, however, to have been privileged to give of ourselves to the work of God’s kingdom on the platforms afforded us by the Church of God.

NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER
THURSDAY MAY 2, 2024 LIVE BROADCAST:
8 P.M. EDT // 7 P.M. CDT // 5 P.M. PDT

HOW TO PRAY
God longs for His people to humble themselves and seek forgiveness and pray for guidance. God's Word says, "Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord" (Psalm 33:12). The Bible commands that we repent of our sins and turn to Almighty God. And because we are confident that we serve a God of mercy and compassion, we know that He stands ready to respond to our cries out of the abundance of His divine wisdom.
It is a crucial time for us to individually and collectively seek God's divine intervention for the challenges facing us. We need to pray for our leaders and for all those who govern us, that they will turn to God with humble hearts and follow Him. Our military leaders need our prayers as we have dedicated men and women serving on battlefields and sacrificing their blood to protect our nation and many innocent people around the world. God is faithful to bless those who turn to Him.
As we call on God, let us do so by genuine faith, believing that He hears our prayers. God can heal this great land, for which our forefathers fought and died. We need spiritual renewal, we need a revival in America, and we need each and everyone to pray. Lord, Hear Our Cry!

THE NEXT OBEDIENT STEP

There are ideals that each of us would long to see realized personally, in our relationships or the life of the church. A decision must be made regarding what the next step will be to address the gap between our ideal and the current reality we see. Do I let it go and give up? Do I grow cynical and critical, continually pointing out the gap with angst and perhaps anger?
A response I have felt called to make when I face the gap between the ideal and the real is to take the next obedient step the Lord calls me to. It doesn’t guarantee the whole gap will be closed, but it allows me to be responsible for my life and character, for my part in a relational matter, and for my calling and responsibility in the Lord’s church.
The gaps between the ideal and the real within the life of the church are regularly on display for all to see. I am probably aware of them in greater detail and regularity than most! Without being naive, cynical, or defeatist, my calling from the Lord is to take the next obedient step He directs me to in the areas I am accountable for. As an individual follower of Jesus, one of those next steps is to know how to answer to the areas I am calling the wider church to respond to.

RECONCILIATION
EMPOWERED BY THE HOLY SPIRIT
by Dr. Catherine Payne // COGOP.org

Over the summer, I was privileged to attend and be involved in ministry at several state, regional, national, and international conventions and conferences. I have had the opportunity to be a part of these meetings over the years as I have served in some capacity at the Church of God of Prophecy International Offices. The experience has consistently blessed my life and spiritual journey as a part of the Church of God of Prophecy family as we are informed of and celebrate God’s work among us. However, this summer provided an exceptional reconsecration for me in the presence and power of the Holy Spirit.
One of the key elements of every one of these meetings was the witness of those who were reconciled to Christ, empowered by the work of the Holy Spirit among us. In each session, as ministry went forward and invitations were extended for prayer, those who were in attendance for fellowship and possibly observation were touched in ways that led them into a season of seeking renewal, refreshing, and spiritually revitalizing experiences. We rejoiced in the works of salvation, sanctification, Holy Spirit fillings, miraculous healings, and the touch of the supernatural in the call to ministry.
While we prepare for and expect these kinds of conversion experiences in conferences, camps, retreats, revivals, and outreach ministries that are designed for evangelistic responses, I cannot remember a “conventions season” where we saw the extreme spiritual explosions that led to people running to the altar for reconciliation to Christ.

IS THE MOST DIGITALLY CONNECTED GENERATION DISCONNECTING
FROM THEIR FAITH?
by Christianity Today

One million young people are leaving Christianity each year.
Sponsored article by TENx10, an initiative focused on helping faith matter more to the next generation.
Recent data paints a picture of a digitally connected yet lonely Gen Z. With an average of nine hours spent on their phones and an attention span of eight seconds, nearly half of U.S. teens claim almost constant internet use.
Does this mean that digital natives, or those born during the age of digital technology, are inherently incompatible with the values and community offered by traditional churches, or is there a better way to bridge the gap and authentically connect with these younger generations?
Cedar Sinai's research reveals that despite constant online connectivity, Gen Z reports higher loneliness than older adults. Other studies highlight Gen Z’s yearning for authenticity, meaning, and in-person experiences. So, if community and shared life are core tenets of the church, why does the generation with information at their fingertips feel so disconnected?
