David Thomas Trailways Welcomes New Director of Maintenance 
David Thomas Trailways and their family of companies, welcomes George Brown to their team as the new Director of Maintenance. 
George has over 30 years in the transportation industry with 23 of those years with MCI.  As a veteran Technical Solutions Manager, George covered the Northeast region of the US for MCI. George is registered for our Motorcoach Safety & Preparedness Workshop scheduled for August 11th.  Please say hello!
Fullington To Increase Daily Departure Interline Services Seven Days a Week 
The Fullington Auto Bus Company is pleased to announce that it will resume full interline and express bus service beginning on September 1, 2021.  Read the press release.

Klein Resumes 7 Day Service to New York City 



Klein Transportation's service to NYC returned to a 7 day a week schedule on Tuesday, July 20, 2021. "We are happy to be able to offer daily service again to better meet the needs of the community,"  said Alison Klein Sherman. Read the press release.
Trans-Bridge Lines Has Expanded Its Service Once Again! 
Trans-Bridge Lines has been conducting surveys of its passengers, analyzing data on ridership, and proposing different schedule scenarios in order to best serve their customer's needs, and offer vital transportation for the Lehigh Valley and surrounding areas. As of Monday, July 19, 2021, they included two new routes on its Allentown/Clinton/New York Schedule. Read the press release.

Pennsylvania Bus Association Responds to TROC Report 
The TROC Report proposes a phased approach with near, medium, and long-term proposals to address the most critical shortfalls in funding levels. Specifically, the Report calls for a Mileage Based User Fee (MBUF) in the long-term to fully align revenues with identified needs of $17.95 billion - requiring an addition $9.5 billion annually to close the projected gap between revenues and needs. "It raises the question as to whether the public and private sector even have the resources to manage that level of spending each year," said Patricia Cowley, PBA Executive Director.  Read the full press release.
New PBA Legislative and Advocacy Committee  
PBA recently formed a Legislative and Advocacy Committee.  Currently, the committee has three (3) members and are looking to add PBA members.  You need not be on the PBA board.  If you are interested in joining this new committee, please send an email to Pattie Cowley at director@pabus.orgThe first meeting (virtual) is scheduled for this Thursday.
Joint Meeting of State and Regional Associations September 9th
PBA members have been invited to join several northeastern motorcoach associations at a joint meeting in Massachusetts on September 9th.  The associations involved are Connecticut Bus Association (CBA), New England Bus Association (NEBA), Greater New Jersey Motorcoach Association (GNJMA), Bus Association of New York (BANY), Mass Bus, and us.  View the invitation and register today!

PBA turns 100 in 2023! We have several logos we would like you to vote on, and are looking for a few volunteers to help plan the celebration. We will reveal the logo and the committee members at the Annual Meeting & Conference in October!  Let us know which logo you like best!

PennDOT Releases Transportation Equity Report 
Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) Secretary Yassmin Gramian announced the release of the department's first Dismantling Systemic Racism and Inequities (DSRI) report, which evaluates PennDOT's diversity and inclusion efforts, better understanding structural racism in transportation, and evaluating programs and initiatives that could help support equitable transportation in Pennsylvania.  Read more... 
PennDOT Announces Annual Highway Safety Survey
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is seeking motorists' input on traffic safety and driving behaviors through its annual online Highway Safety Survey found at www.PennDOT.gov/Safety.
The survey is available on PennDOT's website through August 23 and should take about five minutes to complete. All responses, including the "comments" fields, are anonymous.  Nearly 8,000 people responded to last year's survey, answering questions about safety habits such as seat belt use, impaired driving, speeding, and distracted driving. 
SBA Announces PPP Direct Forgiveness Portal
The Small Business Association (SBA) is launching a streamlined application portal to allow borrowers with Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans $150,000 or less through participating lenders to apply for forgiveness directly through the SBA. This will start tomorrow, 8/4. 
SBA said the vast majority of businesses waiting for forgiveness have loans under $150,000. Businesses are busy running their businesses and are challenged by an overly complicated forgiveness process. Read more...
The Latest on The Infrastructure Bill
The infrastructure bill is out. The Senate published the text on Sunday of a bipartisan infrastructure agreement that has been moving through the process and could be up for a final vote as soon as this week. The compromise legislation would spend big money on highways, transit, rail and more, but it will still likely frustrate progressives, who are pushing for policy priorities like "fix it first" for highways and the broader climate goals of the House's surface transportation bill. Read more...
Masks and Proof of Vaccines Required for Broadway Audiences
Broadway's theater owners and operators have decided to require that theatergoers be vaccinated against Covid-19 and wear masks in order to attend performances.  The policy, announced just days before the first Broadway play in more than 16 months is to start performances, allows children ineligible for vaccination to attend shows if tested for the virus. Some performing arts venues in New York say they will go even further: the Metropolitan Opera, which hopes to reopen in late September, and Carnegie Hall, which is planning to reopen in October, are not only planning to require vaccinations, but also to bar children under 12 who are not yet eligible to be vaccinated.  Read more...
CDC Backtracks with New Mask Guidance
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reversed guidance from just two months ago by saying fully vaccinated people should now mask up in certain areas, underscoring the growing threat posed by a new strain of the coronavirus.  Read more...

FMCSA Extends Compliance Dates for Medical Examiner's Certification Integration
FMCSA has extended the compliance date from June 22, 2021 to June 23, 2025, for several provisions of its Medical Examiner's Certification Integration final rule.  Read more... 
FMCSA: State DMV's Must Provide Electronic CDL Disqualifications
FMCSA has ruled that state driver licensing agencies implement a system for the 'exclusively electronic exchange' of driver history record information, including postings of commercial driver convictions, withdrawals, and disqualifications.  Read more... 
Inspection, Repair and Maintenance; Inspector Qualifications; Application for an Exemption From ATA
FMCSA requests public comment on an application from the American Trucking Associations (ATA) for an exemption from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSRs) that would allow an individual who completes a training program consistent with a set of Recommended Practices (RPs) developed by ATA's Technology and Maintenance Council (TMC) to be considered a qualified inspector for purposes of the periodic inspection rule, or a qualified brake inspector, for purposes of the brake system inspection, repair and maintenance requirements.  Read more... 
FMCSA Proposes Amending Rules on Tech Mounts for CMV Windshields
FMCSA is proposing to amend the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSRs) to increase the area in which certain vehicle safety technology devices may be mounted on the interior of commercial motor vehicle (CMV) windshields.  Read more...
Amtrak To Assess Scranton-NYC Infrastructure
The Pennsylvania Northeast Regional Railroad Authority and Amtrak have signed an agreement that represents new formal involvement by the passenger rail service in a potential route from Scranton to New York City.  Read more...
