Attention
Lowanne Nimat Arrowmen
The lodge will be painting the reflecting pool and mulching the surrounding area at the NYS Park in the Fair at the NYS Fairgrounds on July 30. (if it rains this date will be moved to August 6). This is our largest service project each year that benefits our local community and we would like to see as many Lowanne Nimat Arrowmen this year as possible.
We will meet at the reflecting pool at 8:00 am and we hope to finish by 3:00 PM but this depends on the number of arrowmen who volunteer.
Please sign up on tentaroo, so that we can have an accurate number of Arrowmen attending and if you are able to bring a parent, spouse, or fellow scout (even if not an OA member) we will accept all the help we can get as we serve CHEERFULLY together in brotherhood.
*Please remember to wear "paint" clothes, closed toe shoes, bring a water bottle, a bagged lunch, work gloves, and sunscreen. Also, OA members, please remember your sash for a group picture at the end of our task.
**There is a volunteer agreement which is required by the NYS Department of Parks, Recreation, and Historic to be signed by all volunteers - please see Brother Charles or Brother Carrie for this form before dropping off anyone under the age of 18 - thank you in advance.

Did you know Scouts can get a pre-completed
Eagle Scout Application from Scoutbook?
|
|
An Eagle Application report is available in Scoutbook. It is available on the Scout Reports menu to anyone with a Full Access connection to the Scout, or to the Scout their self. The report is the official BSA Eagle Application. It is an editable PDF, filled in with information contained in Scoutbook, including merit badges, leadership positions, and various dates. It must be downloaded to your computer before editing. The Scout should make sure that all information is correct, and to complete all other required information on the application.

The Longhouse Council, BSA in conjunction with the Erie Canal Museum and the William Hillcourt Museum launched a new program aimed at youths ages 10 to 18. The concept is to encourage young people to become active learners about the Erie Canal system and its history and importance. An historic trails medal is available for purchase upon completion of the requirements. A Erie Trail hiking medallion and patch are also available without restriction.
The first young person to complete the requirements for the Erie Canal Historic Trails award is Amy M. Amy is 10, a Webelos Cub in Pack 218, she's just finishing 4th grade and just moving up to the Arrow of Light level. She completed her 15 miles of the Canal Trail and has visited 2 locks, 1 aqueduct, and the Salt Museum. She has completed her essay and added a ton of pictures of her adventures. Her visit to the Erie Canal Museum completes all of the requirements and we are pleased to recognize Cub Scout Amy M. as the first recipient of the Erie Canal Trail Medal and to present her medal at the inauguration ceremony.
Our second recipient is Ian G. of Troop 1. Ian is a Life Scout and Ian spoke about how much he learned about the impact that the canal had on the growth of Syracuse from a modest town of hundreds to a robust city of many thousands.
The requirements for the award have been posted since the start of the month on the William Hillcourt Museum website under news and a number of young people have already embarked on earning the Erie Trail Medal.
Following the launch there was an historic tour of downtown which also counted as the first mile towards earning the trail award.
We would like to thanks all those supporting the launch including the Erie Canal Weighlock Museum, Longhouse Council, BSA, Erie Canal Trailway Commission, and the Syracuse Mayors office.
