Travel Policy Updates:

EWR Newark Liberty International Airport

Beginning October 3, New Jersey's Newark Liberty International Airport will no longer be considered a New York City-area airport. Newark Liberty will still keep its code of EWR and it will not affect how Newark airport (EWR) will appear in travel agent displays or online travel sites. Newark will show up in all NYC fare and schedule searches. Whether this will make fares more or less expensive from Newark versus the other airports remains to be seen.

Experts say one area where passengers could possibly see an impact could be if they change airports last minute, meaning that instead of flying into JFK, they rather fly into Newark, the airline may charge you a penalty since they are no longer in the same city code.

Singapore Food Festival

Take a trip to Singapore, without having to leave NYC, at the Singapore Food Festival, happening from September 12th - October 10th!

Local restaurants, bars and pastry shops have joined forces with the Singapore Tourism Board to host numerous collaborations across the city during the month-long festival of bringing the flavors, traditions, and dining experiences of Singapore to new, inquiring diners in the U.S.

The special collaborations will not only encourage New Yorkers to begin or continue their unforgettable journey exploring various cuisines, but to spark interest in future travel to Singapore, and view such an adventure as something accessible to them.

Japanese Food Festival

The festival is run by Okayama-born entrepreneur Dragon Yamamoto. Since moving to New York in 2011, he has started Jforward Inc., an event, restaurant, e-commerce and education business set on creating opportunities and moving Japan and Japanese culture forward, and continues to unite cultures through his Japan Fes. ventures.

The event normally brings in over 10,000 visitors and is held ten times per year. Beyond Chelsea this past weekend, the fest has occurred across NYC, from Astoria to the East Village. Japan Fes. also hosts non-food vendors. Attendees are welcome to shop tons of beautiful, traditional Japanese clothing, art and novelties. Live performances will also be entertaining people as they stroll through the incredible food selection.

URBAN HAWKER

What is a hawker center you might be wondering? A hawker center is a traditional Singaporean food hall that hosts numerous stalls and vendors. NYC’s very first, Urban Hawker had a soft-opening on September 21, and it is set to open on Wednesday, September 28 at 135 W. 50th Street.

The highly-anticipated food hall was specially curated by Singaporean food expert and founder of Makansutra (a Singapore-based company striving to promote heritage street food culture), KF Seetoh.

Multi-generational vendors, otherwise known as “hawkerpreneurs,” will delight New Yorkers’ diverse palate. 17 vendors will bring the vibrant flavors of Singapore, along with other cuisines such as Malay, Peranakan, Chinese, Filipino, and Indian to Midtown Manhattan, with 11 vendors coming directly from Singapore’s very own hawker centers.
