PASC Detroit at LANTERN Opens
A New Era of Art and Inclusion in Detroit
We are thrilled to announce the beginning of a new era of art and inclusion in Detroit with our move into PASC Detroit at LANTERN studio, and the opening of If Anyone Can Hear This, curated by Scott Vincent Campbell, our inaugural exhibition at PASC Detroit Gallery. PASC Detroit at LANTERN is Detroit's first public progressive art studio and gallery, located at 9301 Kercheval Ave, Suite 2, Detroit, MI 48214.
PASC is an anchor tenant in LANTERN, a newly developed mixed-use building we share with arts organizations like Signal-Return, professional artist studios, a music residency Assembled Sound, restaurants, and retail spaces. Under the transformative vision of the Library Street Collective, LANTERN is part of several developments in the Detroit East Village neighborhood, nicknamed Little Village, which is becoming an arts and cultural hub in the heart of Detroit, the first UNESCO-designated City of Design in the United States.
This move signifies a monumental chapter for PASC, Services to Enhance Potential (STEP), and the Detroit art world, situating us alongside other pivotal neighboring art organizations such as Signal-Return, The Shepard, I. M. Weiss Gallery, Pewabic Pottery, Louis Buhl Gallery, and others, in this vibrant arts-and-culture-centric neighborhood. The proximity to other professional artists and the broader art community will empower PASC artists, expanding their cultural identity from artists with disabilities, to simply artists, playing a pivotal role in the evolution of Detroit's art and culture scene.
To help us with this monumental move, PASC is launching the PASC Detroit LANTERN Finishing Campaign. We are asking for your support to help us cover our remaining building costs, rent and utilities, and additional materials and equipment needed for this move.
RSVP TO THE OPENING AND DONATE TO THE CAMPAIGN
In this new venue, with an interior studio and gallery designed by architecture firm LOHA, PASC will relocate our Detroit studio program, while also hosting a variety of exhibitions, public programs, and events, increase engagement for our artists, and deepen conversations on art, equity, and the inclusion of diverse voices. Moreover, this central hub of artistic activity will showcase the innovative PASC model and introduce STEP's extensive support services to a broader audience, thereby increasing access and resources to a larger community.
Since its inception, PASC has been dedicated to enhancing access to artistic expression and career development in the arts for individuals with diverse abilities in greater Detroit, a community historically underserved in professional arts programming. The launch of PASC Detroit at LANTERN amplifies STEP's commitment of supporting individuals in the pursuit of their chosen goals and the achievement of personal satisfaction in their lives.
In conjunction with the move into our new space, we are excited to announce our first public exhibition If Anyone Can Hear This curated by Scott Vincent Campbell, marking the beginning of PASC's enhanced programming in our first permanent gallery space in Detroit. This inaugural exhibition, featuring the work of 25 PASC artists from all three PASC studios, marks the beginning of PASC's enhanced programming in our first permanent gallery space in Detroit. More details below.
We invite the community to celebrate this new chapter for art and inclusion with us. Other organizations in the building will also be opening their doors. We hope to see you at the opening on May 9th.

Scott Vincent Campbell writes this about the exhibition, "We've just barely emerged from our time of Covid isolation, but have quickly found ourselves thrust into one of mass collective action. This journey that we've all been on and the plethora of emotions that it stirs, has left me pondering, what does it mean to search for one's tribe? I don't necessarily mean people who are the same as you, or even similar, but the puzzle pieces that are meant to be around you, and fit into your own irregular and contorted edges. This question served as the organizing guide for this exhibition. Solitary figures looking for their match; not because they are lonely, but actually quite the opposite. Self-actualized, and honest, they understand that in the end what's important is our relationships. As PASC inaugurates this new gallery space, it only feels right to build an exhibition around the idea of individual pieces finding their larger puzzle."

A Tapestry of Transformation is an exhibition at The Gallery at Westland City Hall featuring 38 artists from PASC, where each artwork serves as a cultural thread woven together to tell the story of our collective. Representing the tastes, desires, and dreams of American society, the exhibit embodies the essence of our culture, historical references and the interplay of identities. Depictions of celebrities and civil rights leaders mingle with fast cars and beauty parlors, while the pastoral sublime of a bicycle on a sunny day fraternizes with the frenetic depiction of a sports car. Threading in and out, overlapping over and under, the world as we know it comes into focus.
Participating Artists: Heba Ayoub, Jotina Ballard, Rubin Bates, Jirard Bond, Bobby Brooks, Sherri Bryant, Stanley Brown, Desirai Chapman, Ryan Cooke, Sereal Crawford, Dwayne L. Curry, Detroit Angel Tweety, Mandy Demorest, Jeremy Dillard, Chantell Donwell, Je’Vonnie Evans, Lonell Garret, Eric Green, Ashley Hawkins, Laquan Hogan, Susan Hudson, Shawn Jackson, Phillip Kraft, Johnie Lockhart, Richard Marshall, Sandra McCain, Ryan McDonagh, Nathaniel McNeal Jr, Dameon Miller, Vanessa Montgomery, Khiry O’Neal, John Peterson, Deanna Poppenger, Dylan Reeves, Tessann Rondeau, Marear Smith, Raymond Wells, and Willie Whitehead
