Every new year brings many opportunities and we took full advantage of all that 2021 gave us.
It brought us the rare opportunity to slow down and breathe, something we don’t often get as we go from one production to the next. That much needed clarity gave us vision and provided us with a new appreciation for our craft.
We learned, or rather were reminded, that theater doesn’t have to happen within the walls of a building, with an audience sitting in neat rows. Indeed, we learned how to do two Zoom shows with technology that still baffles us. It let us reach across the country to be watched by family and friends. The world (well, our parking lot) truly became our stage when we took it outside with a whole new set of challenges, where people and pooches brought their own chairs or lounged in the grass.
The re-opening of the Playhouse was of course the best part of the year, and coincided with the Playhouse’s original opening in 1971. We don’t know if you heard that choir of angels singing when the doors were flung open, but we sure did and it was glorious.
The opportunity to meet new people who came to play with us was so exciting and gave us the opportunity to learn from their experiences. They have infused our organization with creativity, ideas, vision and a whole lot of fun! Many of them you’ve seen on stage, seen their work on it in sets and costumes or they’re backstage making the magic happen, and do it so well you don’t know they’re there. And just wait until you see what they bring to 2022!
But, the thing we cherish most about this year is the opportunity to see all of you again. We truly missed you. What we do really doesn’t matter without an audience there to enjoy it, safely. The connection, the enthusiasm and the laughter we’ve gotten from all of you has been the perfect curtain call to this very challenging, opportunity filled year.
Our wish is that your 2022 is filled with good health, prosperity and lots of opportunities.
Merry Christmas and Happy 2022!
