Join the faith community in a national interfaith effort to raise awareness about the dangers of menthol.

 
Why Menthol? 
  
Adding menthol to cigarettes makes smoking easier to start and harder to quit. By adding this flavoring, tobacco companies have successfully recruited both youth and marginalized populations. Studies show that placing a ban on menthol may save lives and prevent 9 million people from starting to smoke.

Virginia P3 Community Health Champions
  
P3 Community Health Champions have just completed their 5 week intensive training. This training provided some necessary tools to educate and strengthen their knowledge of health, equity and community engagement so they can be a resource to others. 

They are presently working on two community engagement projects and participating in resource sessions biweekly. These projects and sessions are intended to help them build relationships, establish partnerships and align resources to help the community, in which they live, work and pray.  

Please join us as the Virginia Partners in Prayer and Prevention recognizes our first cohort of P3 Community Health Champions.

Greater Richmond-Petersburg Area Oral Health Forum
 
The Virginia Oral Health Coalition, with support from the Richmond Memorial Health Foundation, is hosting the Greater Richmond-Petersburg Oral Health Forum on Monday, May 22 from 9:30 am - 2:00 pm in Glen Allen. This free event is an opportunity to analyze data on oral health across the lifespan in the region, critically examine health disparities, and determine collaborative strategies to improve oral health and overall health in Petersburg, Richmond, and neighboring cities and counties.
 
The gathering is part of a statewide effort to boost Virginia's C+ grade on the inaugural  2016 Virginia Oral Health Report Card . All community-based stakeholders are welcome to attend. Pre-registration is required and lunch is included.

The Virginia Latino Advisory Board (VLAB) invites you to the Construyendo Puentes de Progreso/Building Bridges to Progress Hampton Roads Community Forum. 


Virginia Latino Advisory Board (VLAB) wants to partner with you to:
  •   Educate the community on the state resources and opportunities available;
  •   Engage and increase community participation; and
  •   Create stronger linkages between state and local government agency staff and the Latino community.
VLAB advises the Governor regarding the development of economic, professional, cultural, educational, and governmental links between the Commonwealth of Virginia, the Latino community in Virginia, and Latin America; undertakes studies, symposiums, research, and factual reports to gather information to formulate and present recommendations to the Governor relative to issues of concern and importance to the Latino community in the Commonwealth; and advises the Governor as needed regarding any statutory, regulatory, or other issues of importance to the Latino community in the Commonwealth.

Keynote presentation by Carole Montgomery, MD, FHM, CPE, MHSA 
Vice President, Clinical Integrated Pathways, Spectrum Health
Carole Montgomery is Vice President, Clinical Integrated Pathways for Spectrum Health, a not-for-profit integrated health system based in West Michigan. In this role, she is responsible for designing and leading the development of population health management programs that focus on integrating care across settings and specialties with a focus on success in both episode-based and population-based risk payment models. In addition to standardizing clinical best practice, objectives include driving reliable engagement of patients through standard education, shared decision making and advanced care planning for all patients. Carole has over 20 years of experience in the practice of hospital based medicine and physician leadership in both physician group and hospital settings.

The Council's Presidential Active Lifestyle Award, also called PALA+, is a free, eight-week program that can help jumpstart your journey to a healthy lifestyle. PALA+ promotes individualized physical activity and healthy eating goals based on the latest recommendations from the Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans and Dietary Guidelines for Americans. Millions of Americans have completed PALA+, but for the first time ever, the President's Council has joined forces with the U.S. Department of Agriculture to help you track your healthy eating and physical activities using the SuperTracker online tool. Participants who complete the program goals can receive the Presidential Active Lifestyle Award.
