Contemplation

"Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired, and success achieved."    -Helen Keller

Midtown Atlanta's Rotary Club Volunteer of the Year!

Deborah Fields-Harris has been serving as a volunteer for Parent to Parent of Georgia for over twelve years. Beginning in 2002, Deborah is a "Supporting Parent", a past member of our Board of Directors and the Leader of the South Fulton County Navigator Team. In April she was named Midtown Rotary Club's Volunteer of the Year. P2P loves our volunteers!

Volunteer Spotlight!

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has."
-Margaret Mead

There are four of us who begin as early as April preparing for our fall Buddy Ball and five years ago we added a spring game as well in the hope that it would give students with disabilities a recreation activity twice a year instead of the usual once. While there is no formal fundraising event to support this program we have applied and received a mini grant from Parent to Parent of Georgia and have gained corporate sponsors from companies like ComSouth. We also rely on local businesses and community members to assist us in providing food, drinks and volunteers for this event . . . Margaret Speilman

Volunteer Training
After a brief hiatus,
we're back and excited!

In the past we had one large conference that spanned 2-3 days for all our volunteers. This year we decided to break it down with 8 regional leadership training meetings for our volunteers across the state.

We had over 150 volunteers participate in the event. If you have not had the opportunity to participate in it yet, don't worry we will be doing these meetings once again. So be on the lookout!

Meet Laurie,
Support Services Manager at P2P

My biggest learning experience has come from being a mother of two children, both with learning differences. I enjoy working at P2PGA because I have the pleasure of being part of a great team
In Support Services, we are all parents of children with special needs. Not only do we assist families, we support each other.
P2P has been a wonderful source of support to me during stormy times. It's nice to be surrounded by people who "get it", fellow parents who share my passion for supporting and improving the lives of other families, one
day at a time!

"Every single day, children are being diagnosed for the first time with special needs."
When I heard a keynote speaker start her presentation with those words, it lit a spark within me and inspired me to join the Parent to Parent of Georgia (P2P) staff back in 2008.
