FAIRFAX, VA – Beginning on Monday, Sept. 16, and continuing through September, there will be overnight multi-lane closures and periodic total traffic stoppages on north- and southbound I-495 (Capital Beltway) in the vicinity of Georgetown Pike in McLean. Triple lane closures will be in place Monday through Saturday from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m., with periodic traffic stoppages of up to 30 minutes each between midnight and 5 a.m.
Additionally, the on-ramp from the collector-distributor road to southbound I-495 approaching Georgetown Pike Bridge will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Affected motorists will be detoured to Georgetown Pike (Exit 44) and will continue to the on-ramp from Georgetown Pike to access southbound I-495.
These closures and stoppages are necessary for crews to demolish the old Georgetown Pike Bridge and shift traffic, as part of the I-495 Express Lanes Northern Extension (495 NEXT) project.
In the event of inclement weather or other delays, work will be rescheduled for the following night.
