It’s time to celebrate reading during Cherry Creek Reads 2024, a districtwide celebration of reading, coming up March 11-15, 2024!
The theme for the week is “Read Together, Inspire Together” which is based on the book, Words of Wonder from Z to A, written by Zaila Avant-garde and illustrated by Keisha Morris. Avant-garde is a young adult author who presents an inspiring picture book filled with her favorite words, from Z to A. The book features motivational words like KINDNESS, HOPE, and RESILIENCE, alongside Zaila's own uplifting reflections.
Words of Wonder from Z to A prompts us to wonder and ask questions like, What’s one word that inspires me? Do the words I use inspire others? How are our words perceived?
Cherry Creek Schools students, parents, teachers, staff, friends and family members are encouraged to read for 68 minutes or more during the week of the event. That’s one minute of reading for every CCSD school. Some other activities students and families can do at home are visiting your local school or public library and find some amazing new books, have a device free evening where family members are reading together, or work together to identify a word that represents your family.
So grab a book and join us for Cherry Creek Reads 2024!

Academic Letters, Pins, and Bars
In Advisory this week, some students will receive awards from the 2022-23 school year. The school has to wait to finalize grades for the whole year to confirm eligibility for the awards, so they are distributed the following school year
Academic Letters and Bars are based on cumulative weighted GPA from last school year (2022-2023).
-
1 academic year at cumulative weighted GPA of 3.75 and above — letter + an academic pin
-
2 academic years at cumulative weighted GPA of 3.75 and above — bar
-
3 academic years at cumulative weighted GPA of 3.75 and above — bar
If you got a bar, you should have lettered in previous years so you should be able to add this to your letter. If you never got your letter, see Activities.

HOW SICK IS TOO SICK?
This week, I want to address a crucial question: "How Sick is Too Sick?" It's essential to understand when it's best to keep your child at home to prevent the spread of illness and ensure their well-being and the well-being of our school community. Per CDPHE guidelines, there are four main reasons for children and adults to stay home:
- Your student could infect others with a contagious illness, either because of symptoms, a diagnosis, or recent exposure to a contagious illness.
- Your student does not feel well enough to take part in usual activities. For example, a child is overly tired, fussy, or will not stop crying.
- Your student needs more care than teachers and staff can give while still caring for the other children.
-
Your student has symptoms or an illness on this list, and staying home is required.
Flu and COVID Prevention
One of the most effective ways to protect your child and our school community from the flu is by getting a flu shot. We strongly recommend contacting your healthcare provider to inquire if the flu shot is available and recommended for your child. Additionally, staying up to date with COVID-19 vaccinations and following public health guidelines, such as mask-wearing and social distancing, can help reduce the risk of transmission of both the flu and COVID-19.
Thank you for your cooperation in helping us maintain a healthy learning environment for all students. Your partnership is essential in keeping our school community safe and well.
Wishing you and your family good health throughout the school year.
Kind Regards,
Brian Kornreich, BSBME, BSN, MS, RN
