OUTREACH Prayer Update
April 2015
-
-
Our church planters depend on the prayers and encouragement of God's people. OUTREACH NORTH AMERICA provides this monthly prayer letter to inform you of some of their specific needs and praises so you will know better how to pray for them. Thank you for your prayers and the interest you show by your phone and e-mail responses. Your prayers truly encourage your church planters. (See the bottom of this e-mail for a summary of all the mission churches included in this update.)
-
-
In general
- Pray for the ONA Board Meeting April 7-8.
- Pray that the Lord will open new opportunities and put the desire in peoples’ hearts to be involved in church planting.
- Praise for ONA’s new Event and Office Coordinator, Katrina Harrison.
- Pray for Tessa Taylor (Publications and Communications Specialist) and her family as they move to Rock Hill, SC. Tessa’s husband Garison has taken a call to be the Associate Pastor at Tirzah ARP Church. Tessa will be able to continue some work from Rock Hill. Katrina will step in to take over many of her daily duties in the office, as well as some new ones.
- If you would like to support individual missions, you can donate to them on the ONA website http://www.outreachnorthamerica.org/donate-individual-missions/.

Praise
- We prayed for 10 new households to get connected to our church at the beginning of 2015, and the Lord has already added several new folks who are ready to undergo our membership class.
- Our local giving is much better than our previous 2 years.
- New college students have begun to attend our services.
-
Pray
- For Andy and Daniel as they transition in their leadership roles at Hill City.
- For some difficult marriage situations in the church; one is now in the courts and is affecting our people.
- For a female unbeliever who has found refuge in our church after escaping an abusive relationship. Pray that she finds healing and comes to trust in Jesus.

Pray
- For fruit from our Easter worship service and outreach opportunities that lead up to it. We have been praying and inviting people to come worship with us.
- Pray for our First Friday Fort Mill outreach. We are hosting a corn hole game at the event. We hope this will give us many opportunities to get to know some folks. The event is Friday, April 3.
- Pray for our men's outreach at the pregnancy centers in Rock Hill, Fort Mill, and Lake Wylie.
- Pray for our financial support. We are nearing the end of our 3-year term with ONA and presbytery. Pray as we search for new financial and prayer supporters. Emily and I had a very good trip to Delaware last week to meet with supporters.
- Pray for Zach and Megan Simmons as they transition to Florida and his new position at Bartow ARP Church. Pray for their apartment to sell quickly.
-
Praise
- We have a Winthrop student who will help us lead worship. His name is Matthew Kreh and will also be helping with ROAR sports in Rock Hill as a camp counselor over the summer.

Prayer and praise
- Rejoice with us that more of our regular attendees are "owning" their neighborhoods as points of outreach and ministry. Please pray with us that even more of us begin praying specifically for our neighbors (especially the unfriendly ones) for their welfare, and for our hearts to be more quickly to forgive others, and that the Lord would put our neighbors in some sort of need for which only we can serve them.
- Here is a list of those neighborhoods and the disciples who are learning to take responsibility for them:
- Henry and Heather and the Bolivia community; not just the immediate farmer neighbors.
- Keith and Jan in their new neighborhood in the lower end of Southport.
- Bill and Leona in the north end of the Palmetto Creek community.
- Frank and Elizabeth and their neighborhood in Wilmington.
- Joel and Sally and their ministry at the Senior Center.
- Nathan and Betta in the Boiling Spring Lakes community, as well as the youth soccer league.
- Hank and Pat in the Boiling Spring Lakes neighborhood, and the prison ministry.
- Bob and Faye in the south end of the Palmetto Creek community.
- Glenn and Siggy in the South Harbor neighborhood.
- Cheryl and the landscaping community in Boiling Spring Lakes and Bald Head Island.
- Donna and her community among the many cleaners and maintenance people on Oak Island.
- Bill and Nancy in the Gatewood neighborhood (a very tight community).
- Dirk and Shirley in the Mystic River community that is now opening up to their influence.
- Johnny and Sissy in Boiling Spring Lakes.
- Ski and JoAn and their many connections with neighbors in Boiling Spring Lakes.
- Fran and Sofia and their many connections in the Arbor Creek community in Southport.
- Walt and Val and the many neighbors and homes opening up in the Arbor Creek community.
- Loyd and Jackie in the south end of Southport.
- Henry and Jean with the enormous community around them in Winnabow.
- Bill and Sally as the leaders and gatherers of their community near the church meeting site in South Harbor.
- Thank you so much for praying with us-- it means so much to know we are being lifted up. In the huge "battle for the neighborhood," we are learning how to come alongside of what the Lord is doing in our neighborhoods already. Pray that our folks will not get weary. Winning the world one relationship at a time is daunting stuff. Loving folks for Christ can be discouraging, and it takes time. Praying for them, trusting Him, and taking the risks in starting up friendships is impossible with men, but not with God.

Praise
- We had our first membership Sunday on March 22 (see photo). It was a great day full of joyful tears and thankfulness to God for what he's done among us. We trust you'll rejoice with us. Thanks for praying for City Church and for helping her love God, love people, and love Asheville. Please continue to pray that City Church would continue to be useful servants in God's mission of compassion and grace to this city.

Praises
- Our worship has really “gelled” behind our new worship leader, Tom. We are thankful that God has brought Tom and his gifts to us at Renew!
- Our leadership team is continuing to deepen in their commitment to Renew and its mission in the community. We are seeing leaders step up and take the load!
- We are seeing new faces at Renew on Sunday mornings – people who are a mixture of new believers, seasoned believers, and de-churched people.
-
Pray
- This season and this year are critical times for us to grow numerically. We feel that we have the leadership and discipleship capacity now; we have services and ministries in place. We ask God to bring people who need His Good News!
- Pray for us as we begin a new generation in our discipleship training over the next few months. This is a critical time of getting disciple making into the heart of our culture.
- Pray for continued funding – that we may be able to sustain ourselves (with the help of Presbytery/ONA/outside giving) and grow to not only support ourselves, but plant other missions!

Praise
- The new elementary school we are meeting at is working out great. They really wanted us and can't do enough for us.
- We were invited to attend a once a month hymn sing, study, prayer time, and pot luck meal by a number of OPC folks who live here in the East Valley. Their church is 45 minutes or so away in Scottsdale. It was great to fellowship with another group of Christians.
-
Pray
- That the Supreme Court votes in our favor and that the wording is such that it will help churches without a building to have the same rights to use signs that everyone else does. We will know by the end of June at the latest.
- Pray that we will soon get a response from the Home Owners Association if they are serious about buying our property and for how much. The appraisal was much more than what we paid so it will be interesting.
- Pray for discernment in what God's will is for Good News.

- We thank God for the faithfulness of the people He has sent to be a part of our church.
-
Prayer Requests
- We are seeking a new facility which will enable us to minister better, especially to families. The options in the north Greenville County area are very limited.
- Pray for Walker Suits, who has been our intern for the last year, as he seeks God's direction for him and his ministry.
- Pray for wisdom and guidance as we look to go back to having a full time mission developer.
