And THANK YOU to all who supported CARES throughout 2022! Our neighbors, families, friends, volunteers, faith-based, corporate and small business partners. You made CARES a success and motivated us to do even more in 2023.

Families to Families... Another Great Partnership with The Gathering Church!

From l to r: Pastors Gerald and Lynn Johnson, Angela Fanning, Karen Hollins and Dev Baty CARES supporters and volunteers from The Gathering Church

Karen Hollins and the congregation of The Gathering Church don't just talk about service, they back up their words with action! And for guests of CARES that means monthly donations of personal items that are in highest need. Items like soap, toothpaste, hair products and deodorant, for example, aren't allowable purchases on EBT Cards. So those are the things that this "little Church with a BIG heart" concentrates on providing. The Church, led by Pastors Gerald and Lynn Johnson, is dedicated to service and every congregant commits to "serve days" where they work as a team to make connections and fulfill needs in the community.

In November, 50 volunteers from The Gathering Church provided a Soup Luncheon for CARES guests. According to Hollins who is Outreach Administrator, members believe in "... making a commitment to live, love and serve as Jesus would have us do. Living in love means you have to show that love. We are passionate about serving our community."

In addition to CARES, The Gathering Church partners with Mary's Mantle, the Mariners' Inn, Covenant House and Black Mothers Breast-Feeding.

Thankful for our community partner DTE!

CARES relies on local and regional business partners for donations, support and volunteers to keep the Food Pantry and other services viable. DTE has become one of those partners through the efforts of Ann-Marie Morris, DTE Community Engagement Coordinator.

In the Fall DTE provided hundreds of light bulbs for our guests and for residents in the neighborhoods surrounding CARES. DTE also donated bottled water and Morris was one of the many volunteers who helped make CARES annual Trunk or Treat Celebration a success.

Ann-Marie Morris is shown at left with CARES Executive Director, Todd Lipa and DTE Volunteers.

Looking for a way to brighten gray winter days?

Jenny Scherer and the U of M Events Team have just the project for you. Jenny challenged her Events Team Members to "FILL the CARES Van" in December. And fill it they did! They brought personal hygiene products, canned goods and more. Nearly 2,300 pounds of food and products to be exact!

Can you do better than the group at U of M? We'll bring the CARES Van to your business, church, temple, mosque or parking lot and your group can fill it with items that are needed by so many in our communities who are struggling to make ends meet. Contact Todd Lipa at 248-474-8231 to make your van reservation.

We serve Southfield, West Bloomfield, Novi, Northville, Livonia, Redford, Farmington and Farmington Hills. We'd love to bring our van to a different location every week and watch it fill up with food and products for our neighbors in need. At CARES we believe that in helping our neighbors we help ourselves.

We have the best volunteers...

CARES Volunteers enjoyed coming together to celebrate at our annual Holiday Party. Lunch, and songs led by Deacon Mark Springer on guitar and Paul Chapman on trumpet.

"A jolly good time was had by all!"

Are you thinking about becoming a Volunteer in your community? CARES might be just your thing...

It's an easy way to meet new friends and feel good about helping our community become an even better place.

There are volunteer openings in both the CARES Market and Food Pantry.

Visit www.caresfh.org and fill out form under volunteer tab on home page.

How about becoming a Personal Shopper/Home Delivery Angel? We have a limited number of guests who are not able to get to CARES for shopping. Would YOU spend an hour or two ONCE PER MONTH, to shop and deliver groceries to a neighbor in need? Call CARES at 248-474-8231 to find out more. Ask for Nancy or Cheryl to contact you.

No time to volunteer? Donations are ALWAYS welcome!

Your generous donation is needed to help us reach our goal of $208,000 to keep CARES open and helping to feed over 1400 individuals--500+ families for another year. There are so many ways to donate. Visit www.caresfh.org/donate or click on the button below.
