Reflections from Head of School Scott Montgomery

In the Bible, when Joseph is reunited with his brothers (who had previously sold him into slavery), he says, “you meant evil against me, but God, meant it for good” (Gen. 50:20). The Apostle Paul tells us in Romans 5:6-8 that, “Perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die, but God shows us His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Throughout the Bible, the words “but God” are encountered repeatedly, and for good reason, they should give each of us eternal hope and peace. In those two words, “but God” the gospel comes alive: But God’s love. But God’s peace. But God’s provision. Over the past several months, I have been continually reminded, “but God.”

Theme Verse - John 3:30
Our theme for this school year is "Transform". The transform theme comes from John 3:30 which says, “He must increase, but I must decrease.” John the Baptist spoke those words when Jesus was beginning His public ministry and they are as applicable today as they were when John first spoke them. Everything about our Christian walk, the way we engage with others, the way we see and interact with the world, the way we teach and learn, should transform us and refine us to be more like Christ. This year we are focusing Chapel, Bible, our discipleship of students, and our instruction around what it means to be transformed by, and for, Jesus.
Join us in Praise!
From the Board of Directors
For many of us 2020 has been a year filled with more hardships than praises. However, in the midst of the crazy and unpredictable year, God remains never changing; He is consistently faithful and always present. Over my time on the Heritage Board I have learned that God hears our prayers and will provide. I’ve known this intellectually for years, but God has shown His faithfulness in tangible ways during the past several years.

During this COVID pandemic year specifically, the Board has...

Welcome to our new staff member!
Laurie Schillinger
Kindergarten Teacher

Laurie grew up in Minnesota, moved around some, and ended up in Iowa City her senior year of high school. She went to college in Minnesota, taught in Finland for a year, then at Heritage for 3 years when it first opened! Her husband Doug, and three kids Hannah, Bethany and Caleb have now lived in the area for over 25 years.

"I am thankful to be able to influence children who can learn to be proud of knowing God and becoming more like Him. I pray this impacts their generation as they can show others through their lives, and tell others the truths they learn about how great our God is and how much He loves each person they encounter. God is so faithful!"

We're so excited to have Mrs. Schillinger join us this year!
