Athletes in Action

Our athletes have had a busy month with tons of exciting activities, classes, competitions, and events. Check out some highlights of their fun and accomplishments.

Intramural Floor Hockey

This month our athletes have been having a lot of fun in intramural floor hockey! Each week 528 High School athletes have been competing on Tuesdays and 424 Chicago Park District/agency athletes have been participating on Thursdays. This year we were able to provide new equipment for teams that needed it.

November cooking class

Our monthly cooking demo was held on Monday, November 6, and our athletes joined Chef Jared from Common Threads to make a delicious meal. This month, athletes used fresh ingredients to make turkey tacos for the whole family!

Intramural Bowling

On November 1 and 15, 1167 athletes participated in intramural bowling at four locations across the city. Everyone had a great time and each team that participated received a new indoor bowling set to continue practicing at their sites.

- A new indoor bowling set was distributed to each team that participated to

continue practicing at their site.

Hawaii

Our athletes headed to Hawaii this week! 16 athletes and 5 coaches will be there November 14–November 21 to compete in the Holiday Classic in Waikiki. This trip is fully funded by Special Children’s Charities, and we are so excited to provide this amazing opportunity for our athletes.

Athlete Artwork Feature

November’s featured artwork is by Miguel Sanchez of Northside Learning Center. Miguel’s artwork is called “Bowling Alley” and shows a bowling ball crashing through pins for a strike! As November brings colder temperatures it is the perfect time to head back to the bowling alley and get back to bowling strikes!
