It's not what we know that concerns us, it's what we don't know. This course will stuff your head and heart with a plethora of information to help you age responsibly, resourcefully, and resiliently. We will learn about: What it means to age well, according to multiple sources and explore what your age-well plan looks like. What's normal brain aging and what's not. Mitigating the risks of cognitive impairment. What healthy aging looks like. Families, communication, and caregiving. How and why ageism is the fastest growing bias in the world. Classes will be enlightening, entertaining, and engaging. Bring your questions and we will help find the answers.

The course will begin with the bedrock geology. Along the way we will explore the "Snowball Earth" that occurred 850 million years ago, when most of the earth froze over, and sedimentary rocks from this event are well represented on Mount Superior. Examine the Wasatch Fault, its history of earthquakes, and the likelihood of those in the future. Look at the early history of Alta, beginning with the discovery of silver in 1865 and the building of the town, which burned down in 40 minutes in 1875. Explore the eight climate zones that we see going up the canyon, from desert steppe in the Salt Valley to alpine tundra at the top of Mt. Baldy. Then, look at the great transition, from mining to skiing. All of this will hopefully give you a new appreciation for Little Cottonwood Canyon, one of the most remarkable places in the world.

Considered to be one of the finest Carnegie libraries in the west, this 8900 square-foot library has two levels. Since its opening in 1918, it has been an important part of city services to Westside residents. The Chapman branch was completely renovated, including an updated, HVAC, following the collapse of the roof during 1993. A major remodel of the basement level meeting space in 2002 resulted in a much improved children's area and expanded service and collection.

You're invited to tour the beautiful Utah State Capitol! During the tour you will not only learn about the many beautiful spaces in the building but you will also discover exciting opportunities to become a volunteer docent. For nearly a century, the State Capitol has been one of Utah's most prominent landmarks. Designed by local architect Richard K. A. Kletting, the Capitol has been home to state government since its opening in 1916. From 2004 to 2008, the Utah State Capitol underwent one of the largest historical preservation projects in the United States. In addition to safe-guarding the building against the risk of an earthquake, the project also repaired and restored the original beauty and artwork of the Capitol. Each year, thousands of people visit the Capitol to witness its modern magnificence and historic significance.

Join us for a film screening and panel discussion focused on the dangers of scams, fraud, and elder grooming to swindle money. Osher will be screening Sweepstakes, an 11-minute film written, produced and directed by local filmmaker Stephen Williams, starring Anne Cullimore Decker. The film has received over 14 awards from national and international film festivals. Following the screening, there will be time for questions and answers with the filmmaker, a representative from the regional office of the FBI, and Alan Ormsby, Director of AARP Utah.
