June 13, 2017 - The
Venice Simplon-Orient-Express
,
the most iconic luxury train in the world, will offer next year, for the first time, fully en-suite cabins -- each with private bathroom, shower, and sink.
Belmond, operator of the VSOE
and seven other luxury trains around the world, made the announcement today.
Three "Grand Suites" will be available on all
VSOE departures, beginning in March, 2018. Bookings are now open.
The names of the cabins will be "Paris", "Venice" and "Istanbul." Each will have a unique décor, to emphasize the decorative aspects of each destination.
The Grand Suites will boast a separate living area with table and chair, double bed that can be arranged as two twins, and sofa that can fold out to accommodate a child. The Suites are spacious enough to allow for private dining, per the guests' whim.
Grand Suite guests will also have a private butler, free-flowing champagne, private transfers, and luxurious art deco bathrobes to take home as a souvenir.
Carriage No. 3425, which is currently used for single travelers, is being renovated to accommodate the three new suites. This is the historic carriage used by King Carol of Romania to engage in illicit love affairs.
The cost of the new cabins will be about
£5,500 per person, per night (about U.S. $7,000 at today's rates).
The Society of International Railway Travelers is taking bookings now. And if you're already booked with us for 2018 and would like to upgrade to a Grand Suite, please let us know as soon as possible.
We're also happy to put your name on our "first notification" list for 2019.
