CPOM HB 4130 Zoom Discussion and Recap

with House Majority Leader Ben Bowman

Date: April 17th, 2024

Time: 6:30PM - 7:30PM

Location: Online via Zoom

Oregon ACP supported HB 4130 this legislative session. This bill was intended to put guardrails around the increasing corporatization of healthcare. We would like to keep our membership informed on the topic, thus share this webinar with you with the understanding that the views contained in the webinar may not fully align with those of ACP or the Oregon Chapter. If you would like to get involved in advocacy around this and other issues of interest to internal medicine physicians, please reach out to office@oregonacp.org

Healthcare For All Oregon (HCAO) will host House Majority Leader Ben Bowman and key contributors to the development of House Bill 4130, which nearly passed the Oregon state legislature in February. HB 4130 would have strengthened Oregon's ban against the Corporate Practice of Medicine (CPOM) and guaranteed that doctors, not corporations, make patient care decisions.

Please join us for a recap of the bill, and a discussion and Q&A to explore how we can make Oregon the first state to bring back the integrity of the patient and provider relationship.

Oregon is currently experiencing increased corporate control of our healthcare system, from private equity investors, national insurance conglomerates like UnitedHealth, and out-of-state hospital systems. HB4130 came very close to passage this legislative session, but heavy industry pushback stalled that effort. We look forward to discussing key elements of the bill, Representative Bowman's plans to reintroduce the legislation this January, and how physicians can be involved in crafting and supporting this legislation! Our voices as physicians and other medical professionals are necessary in 2025.

Don’t miss out on this excellent opportunity to hear how providers can lead on this issue and how it can be improved. Additionally, we will work collaboratively to discuss how this grassroots effort can expand and see where we can make a contribution to this important safeguard to our profession.
