Student Edition

The students took a turn around the county to look at different industries we have here. They started the day off at the civic center and talked about economic development with Cindy McGraw. Then, we went to Trion to Mount Vernon Mills and were briefed on the history of the company and toured them through the denim mill and finishing plant. After a quick lunch we stopped in on Tyler Whitlock at Ruff Creek Farms...an amazing young entrepreneur! At Smith Ironworks, Blake Weaver gave us the grand tour and talked about how the company has grown over the years, with plans to expand some more.

All in all, the students were very impressed with the variety of companies located here, how they help the community, and how much goes in to starting and staying in business.
The adults had their orientation in January, and Diane Vinyard with Living Life on Target got them started off with several activities to learn more about each other. She worked in conversation starters and ways to get out of their comfort zone, too.

Heather Casey with LeadStrong414 led the afternoon session by diving into the DISC assessment and how knowing our tendencies help us communicate better and build trust.
Partnerships

Lori Dowdy Visits Chattooga Senior Regional Project Manager Global Commerce with GDEcD made industry tours February 1 to learn about industries in her territory and to speak with the companies about tax incentives that are available to rural counties.

The tours were a partnership between The Chattooga Chamber, NWGA JDA, and the County. Companies visited on this round of tours were Mount Vernon Mills, Try-Con Tufters and Smith Ironworks. Future tours will be scheduled. If your company would like to be put on a schedule, please contact Cindy McGraw at the Chamber.
