Spotlighting Exelon STEM Scholars 2021 and 2022
I walked into college with super low expectations of dining hall food and campus events, but my experience so far has exceeded my thoughts! My first couple of weeks at UIUC have been super exciting as I got to explore campus and attend different events.
The difference between my high school schedule and college schedule was shocking at first, but I’m super appreciative to have only a couple of classes a day. I have so much more free time to go on walks with my roommates to explore the grocery stores, restaurants, and other buildings on campus. It was definitely hard to find friends when I first got on campus but, joining student organizations really helped and everyone is really nice. I’ve gotten used to being in college and developing a work routine, so it feels like I’ve been here for years when it’s really been 3 weeks.
My first day was exciting. I was initially nervous about my first class but realized that this is something I am in control of, and everything would be fine. After my first class, I got super pumped for CS 2800 I had no idea what to expect and was so shocked when there were over 500 students in the auditorium taking the course. I’m excited to meet new people and learn new things. I feel like sophomore year is a brand-new start especially now that I have the knowledge and experiences of a full year under my belt.
Overall, I had a great first week of school. I have never felt this excited about my classes. I am taking math, computer science, physics, and a course on game theory. I am very excited for the CS courses because they aren’t only about coding and have new applications of what I’ve learned already. My most interesting class so far is game theory; It’s a mélange of logical strategies, a little history, and economics.
