Happy December. As we continue to prepare for Christmas and other holidays this season with anticipation, let's remember what drives us as human beings ... connection.
I am sharing a couple of great articles that supports why we, as humans, need physical interaction. Research has shown (Maslow's Basic Hierarchy of needs) that we all need touch. For a sense of belonging, security and thriving.
For those of you who do not know, my 23 year old son has Down syndrome. He likes to get close and express his affections. Most people with Down syndrome do. They are expressing our innate nature of connection. However, our 'society' commonly stifles it by labeling it 'inappropriate'. I remember getting a sick feeling in my gut when Nicholas was in grade school and he was 'sent to the Principle's office' for inappropriate behavior, which was simply love.
Now keep this in mind, healthy boundaries and teaching is necessary so no one gets creeped out. However, let's all drive connection together this season and carry it into the new year by expressing our affections a little more.
Main benefits by doing this? HAPPINESS, JOY, LOVE.
Picture This: Two babies in separate cribs. Over the course of 30 days Baby #1 gets picked up, cuddled, loved, and played with. Baby #2's only human/physical interaction is being changed and fed. After 30 days there will be tremendous thriving with baby #1. Baby #2 ... not as much!
CONNECTION - ENERGY - LOVE
The following articles support what happens to our chemistry (chemicals released in our brain) that can benefit our mood, immune system, cardiovascular system, digestive system, and overall well-being.
Take time to make time to engage in kissing, hugging and/or massage. It's all good therapy.

I wish you all joy and peace in your hearts and much love and happiness in your souls.
Love and JOY,

... In reality, most of us feel that the people we deal with on a daily basis show a severe lack of emotional intelligence. For example, the spouse or partner that surprises us with a lack of empathy, the guy who purposefully takes up two parking spots? Any of these situations may leave us exasperated, angry, and discouraged.
There are a lot of contributing factors that lead to any individuals level of emotional intelligence. Where environment is certainly a factor, our childhood experiences and upbringing are major factors. Surprisingly it isn't always the children who have had the smoothest upbringing that have the highest levels of EI.
"... that rare gem of a quality found in surprisingly few people and highly sought after and prized amongst characteristic traits by many in leadership and in relationships. Emotional Intelligence."
Emotional intelligence (EQ or EI) is a
term used to describe the ability of an individual to recognize their own and other people's emotions, to discriminate between different feelings and label them appropriately, and to use emotional information to guide ones own thinking and behavior.
In laymen's terms, it's the ability to feel and empathise with other peoples emotions, not just your own. Let's just say a colleague has just arrived to a meeting, perhaps a little late after travelling a long way to get there and has spent around three hours stuck in traffic. They look hot, flustered, tired and slightly wild eyed with worry.

The U.S. Surgeon General Wants To Bring You Health Via Happiness
by Huffington Post
Let's be clear: "Happiness" is not an emotion, an inherited disposition that is awarded to a select few, or even dependent on events that happen to you in life. Rather, Murthy argues that happiness is a perspective, and that everyone can create it for themselves with four simple, free approaches: gratitude exercises, meditation, physical activity and social connectedness.
The U.S. Surgeon General is on a mission to bring you happiness, peace and love.
His serious public health agenda for the U.S. includes addressing the state of substance addiction and ending stigma for mental health. In the past, he has also called "gun violence" a public health issue. But Vivek Murthy, one of the youngest surgeon generals to ever serve in the role, is also emphasizing happiness as one of the main ways to prevent disease and live a long healthy life.

by Huff Parents
All of us who have children have too many toys scattered throughout the house. No matter how diligent we are about keeping them at bay, it seems to be a constant fight. It's especially hard when special days come and we want to give gifts to our children, or grandparents want to give gifts.
Gifts are good things! But, too much of anything isn't good.
A great way to combat having too many toys is to shift all the gifts to non-toy items.
