Renewal Season & Open Enrollment Period for 2018

The
O
pen Enrollment Period
for medical insurance starts tomorrow,
Wednesday, November 1, 2017,
and will end January 31st,
2018
. Californians who signed up over Covered California and are not eligible for subsidies should switch out of the exchange, as there is a 8.3% surcharge built in on the Silver plans to off-set the cost share system. With Anthem leaving the Southern California market and especially with Blue Shield's PPO showing significant premium increases in Los Angeles, there are alternatives with Oscar's EPO, Health Net's PPO, Kaiser and Blue Shield's new Trio HMO For many policyholders, this means switching carriers and downgrading their health plan benefits to keep their current health insurance rate. None of the carriers offer really significant out-of network coverage. Read more detailed info about each carrier in my blog.
Remember, if
you want to have your
new health plan effective by January 1st, 2018
, you need to submit the application no later than December 15th, 2017.

Medicare Annual Enrollment Period has started October 15 and ends December 7
|
For Seniors, the Open Enrollment Period began on October 15th. If you are on a Medicare Advantage Plan and want UCLA services you have to switch your Medicare Advantage Plan to SCAN, as they are the only carrier with the primary doctors for  UCLA.This year their monthly premium will be $ 24. If you want more freedom of choice also consider the PPO plan from Aetna, with a competitive premium of $ 79.- If you would like for me to check your updated prescription needs, please send them to me and I will send you an overview of the plan choices for 2018.
