Proud of Our Veterans
by Jorgo Gushi
Veterans Day, formerly known as Armistice Day, is celebrated on November 11th as a federal holiday to honor military members and veterans who have served this great country for peace and justice. Many of us have seen on the news how the Army, Air Force, Marine Corps, Navy, and Coast Guard actively respond to situations both in state and overseas to keep us safe and in peace. There are local heroes who walk among us; those who have served and continue to serve close within our neighborhood and on our proud campus. Our college includes many veteran and military students who have served our country in one way or another, be it foreign or domestic, in times of peace and war. The Open Door has reached out to these local heroes and asked them to give us some of their time to honor us with their knowledge and service history.

The Origin of World Kindness Day
|
|
World Kindness Day is an international holiday that was formed in 1998, to promote kindness throughout the world and is observed annually on November 13 as part of the World Kindness Movement. It is observed in many countries including the United States, Canada, Japan, Australia and the U.A.E. World Kindness Day presents us with the opportunity to reflect upon one of the most important and unifying human principles. On a day devoted to the positive potential of both large and small acts of kindness, try to promote and diffuse this crucial quality that brings people of every kind together.
WORLD KINDNESS DAY ACTIVITIES
- Commit at Least Three Random Acts of Kindness Today
Give compliments. Smile at strangers. Hold a door open. Give up your seat on a crowded train. Perform at least three random acts of kindness and see what magic follows!
- Give Extra (and Extra-Long) Hugs Today
Kindness and connection go hand-in-hand. Take a few extra minutes to hug your loved ones and friends today. They might wonder what got into you, but they’ll appreciate it nonetheless!
- Write a Love Poem to Yourself and Read It out Loud
You should be kind to yourself, today, too. Write a short (or long) poem highlighting the things you appreciate about yourself and your life.

QCC has put together a website dedicated to encouraging our constituents to vote for our next national elections. We are doing this because today, more than ever, we want to emphasize how this election can be shifted by our ideals of equity, participation and our understanding of democracy. QCC as Worcester’s community college wants to make sure all voices count during this coming election.
Here is the link with some great videos of our students, and additional voting resources and information https://www.qcc.edu/vote.
