Ontario By Bike E-News: July
Wheeling Through Waterloo Region

KW Classic | Credit Cyclewaterloo.ca

It's not uncommon to hear destinations tout they have something for everyone, but we are confident Waterloo Region does. From the highly regarded and signed single track mountain biking at the Hyrdocut to the rail trails that extend across the northern and southern stretches of the region, to the rural road and gravel riding through Mennonite Country

Recognized as a Gold-level Bicycle Friendly Community by the Share the Road Cycling Coalition in 2018, the city of Waterloo offers wonderful and safe cycling experiences connecting to attractions, conservation areas and commercial districts. Kitchener (Silver-level) and Cambridge (Bronze-level) also offer trails and routes through communities and neighbourhoods making the region a must-visit destination for those looking for an urban riding experience with lots to see and do.

Register for this great cycling weekend!

July 27-28 is being promoted as "Speed Weekend" with the Kitchener Twilight Gran Prix on Friday, July 27th in Victoria Park followed by the Cambridge Fieldstone Criterium in the downtown core of old Galt with two stone bridge crossings on Saturday, July 28th. If you have a need for speed, Cycle Waterloo will sort you out!

2018 Ontario By Bike Rides
 - Toronto Tour Recap | Essex Windsor & Niagara Updates -

To kick off our 2018 Ontario By Bike Ride season of weekend group tours, we spent 2 days with a
small group exploring the trails, ravines and waterfront in Toronto along a wonderful  90km route.

Incorporating the paved paths along Humber River and Don Valley, as well as a  stunning section of the Great Lakes Waterfront Trail (aka Martin Goodman Trail) this route is primarily on paths, and is most deserving of a ride!

This route is now available online as a legacy itinerary for those interested in spending a  weekend of self-guided riding in Toronto.

Bike City: A Must See

Whether you are a city resident or just passing through on 2 or 4 or more wheels, there is a fascinating new exhibit recently opened in Toronto that any avid cyclist or budding historian is not going to want to miss.

Bike City - On now till November 17 at the Market Gallery located on the second floor of the south St. Lawrence Market.

Not to share too many spoilers, as you must go and learn more yourself, here are some of the fascinating bits of historic Toronto bike culture we learned from this well curated and documented exhibit:
  • Bikes have been built in Toronto since 1882.
  • Early manufacturers that included Massey-Harris, merged to create Canada Cycle & Motor Company (CCM brand) to combat American competition.
MTB Special - Crank The Shield
