One Year of the 988 Crisis & Suicide Lifeline

Clara Reynolds, President & CEO, provides an update on the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline one year after the transition to the shorter number.



A Moment of Hopelessness

When 16-year-old Michael dialed the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, he was in an emotional state. He kept repeating over and over again that his life had no purpose and that he wanted to die. Even though on paper his life was “great”, he couldn’t explain why he felt as hopeless as he did.

 

Do I Call 988, 911, or 211?

With so many different resources throughout the community, it can get confusing to understand who to call for which issue. Regardless of which number you dial, each of these three resources is available 24/7, 365 days a year to provide help and support. And if you dial 988 or 211 you'll be connected with one of the Crisis Center's caring, compassionate team members.
