Boosting Soybean Oil


Research from the lab of Doug Allen, PhD, has revealed a new method to improve the production of soybean oil. This discovery could have an impact on green fuel development in particular. Soybean oil also plays a critical role in food, feed, and industrial applications. The findings were recently published in New Phytologist. Read more.

Citation bias in the sciences often leaves women and minorities behind. In an article published by The Plant Cell, Sona Pandey, PhD, and Tessa Burch-Smith, PhD, discuss the impacts of citation bias and suggest five recommendations to address and rectify the inequalities of citation bias. New Field Site Takes Flight


Last year, the Danforth Center acquired a 140-acre farm in St. Charles and transformed it into a Field Research Site. Since then, the site has enabled a host of exciting new experiments, many in partnership with the Taylor Geospatial Institute, and deploying tools such as satellites, GPS technologies, and uncrewed aerial vehicles (UAVs) or drones. Celebrating Indigenous Peoples’ Day


The reconstructed prairie surrounding the Danforth Center is a meaningful reminder of what Midwestern landscapes used to look like. This year in honor of Indigenous Peoples’ Day, we have installed a new plaque in our prairie to acknowledge, celebrate, and honor the Native Peoples who stewarded this land.
