Dir.: Jean-Franois Laguionie / 2013 / France / dubbed in English / 76 min / High Definition Digital

A worldwide golden age of film animation is still going strong, and this French film, now seeing its U.S. debut, provides another reason why. In The Painting, an unfinished canvas becomes the focus and source of a great mystery. The portrait contains finished characters (Allduns), half-finished characters (Halfies), and rough sketches (Sketchies). As they come alive within the painting they organize themselves by class, with the Sketchies relegated to the lowest rungs

of this odd society and the Allduns on top. Three characters, convinced that only finding the painter and convincing him to finish the work will restore peace to their world, enter "the real world" to go in search of him.

Unfinished Song

Fri 8/23 9:00; Sun 8/25 2:30 & 7:30; Mon 8/26 9:00; Tue 8/27 6:30; Wed 8/28 9:00; Thur 8/29 6:30

Dir.: Paul Andrew Williams / 2013 / US / 93 min / 35 mm film

Unfinished Song is a story of enduring love, a lasting marriage, and the redemption that music can bring. Arthur (Terence Stamp) is living

out his later years in a state of cantankerousness. He doesn't enjoy anything or anyone in a world that has progressed beyond his liking.  The only exception is his wife, Marion (Vanessa Redgrave), with whom he shares a deep connection that rises above their differing outlooks.  But he hates taking her to choir practice that she's so fond of. Why would people of their age want to sing songs by Motorhead anyway?

Take a pleasure trip of a different sort with the incomparable Spanish filmmaker Pedro Almodvar, director and screenwriter of The Skin I Live In, Talk to Her, and the now-classic Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown. Almodvar's latest is set in the confines of a

trans1atlantic flight from Spain to Mexico. A technical malfunction has caused the flight to veer off course and it is up to the crew to maintain calm and order among the worried passengers. This being a Pedro Almodvar film, that crew includes a trio of flamboyant gay

stewards; the worried passengers include a clairvoyant virgin preoccupied with sex, an outspoken high-paid dominatrix call girl, a

famous actor also known for his conquests, and a mystery man wearing sunglasses and reading Roberto Bolano, among others.

Fill the Void is an Israeli drama about a young woman facing the unexpected challenges of life. Shira is 18 and living in Tel Aviv. She has everything to look forward to, including the marriage arranged by her family, who are ultra orthodox Hasidic Jews.  She has high hopes for her upcoming nuptials. She knows arranged marriages can work; she's seen the proof in her own family. And her hopes only grow more intense when she spies her perspective mate across the supermarket aisle.  Everything is good, until her older sister, Esther unexpectedly dies. At that moment, Shira's dreams of a bright future crumble away.
