Foundation Feature: Edmond Public Schools Foundation Student Ambassadors

Edmond Public Schools Foundation:  Established in the early 1980s

District Serves : Students in grades preK-12

Executive Director:  Deanna Boston

Great Idea to Share : Foundation Student Ambassadors

The Student Ambassador program was started in September 2019 by the Edmond Public Schools Foundation. This program offers Edmond Public Schools high school students the opportunity to work together with their rival high schools for one common purpose: to support the needs of the district through the foundation. There are 27 participants from Memorial, North and Santa Fe high schools.

The students sit on one of three committees: Fundraising, Volunteers or PR/Marketing. Some of the work they have accomplished includes collecting items for goodie bags for the teacher and support staff of the year, writing thank you notes to foundation partners, collecting snacks for an EPS Title I school, writing a newsletter column, increasing the foundation's social media presence, and receiving training on nonprofit management. In addition to their individual committee work, they had planned to come together at the end of the school year to host one fundraising event to benefit the foundation. Unfortunately, this final event was canceled due to COVID 19.

One of the Student Ambassadors plans to minor in nonprofit management at the University of Oklahoma starting in the fall. She will work this summer as an intern for the EPS Foundation, assisting with the golf tournament and enhancing the Student Ambassador program.

The program will continue in the 2020 - 2021 school year and is open to Freshman through Senior students. Participating students shared the following about their ambassador experience:

“We write to keep you informed about everything EPSF and how as a non-profit we have been able to produce significant change for our school district and help whomever we can to ensure all students, teachers, and staff have the necessities for a proficient and phenomenal educational environment.”
Caitlyn Lodhi,
PR & Marketing Committee Member

“Our committee is in charge of allocating donations for the teacher and support staff of the year gift sacks, and also organizing a fundraising event for EPSF. We plan to help raise money to help support the foundation so they can continue to support Edmond students and schools!”
Lauren Minnix, Officer and Fundraising Committee Chair

“As committee chair, I hope to lead my committee towards serving our school district in various ways including donations and volunteering our time for Edmond Public Schools. I am looking forward to what our committee can do for the district.”
Mackenzie Goings,
Officer and Volunteer Committee Chair
