Ohio Celebrates National Recovery Month

September marks National Recovery Month. The tagline, “Every Person, Every Family, Every Community,” emphasizes that recovery is possible for everyone. During National Recovery Month, START teams across the state are celebrating the journey of individuals who have overcome addiction, highlighting the importance of substance use treatment and mental health support.

If you are new to running or you are looking for something to help with your recovery, replace bad habits for healthy ones, or just to get out and enjoy the fresh air, we want to help. Join the Running2Bwell Running Group at their group runs to get you on track on Mondays at Second Sole in Akron (down in the valley) at 6:30pm (or any of their group runs in Kent, Medina or Wadsworth). For the latest updates on group runs, please follow Running2bWell on Facebook.

START Presents at Ohio Peer Recovery Summit

This month, Ohio START presented at Ohio PRO’s 2023 Ohio Peer Recovery Summit: Ohioans Thriving in Recovery! Family Peer Mentors from Summit (Erin Mills & Jessica Okolish) and Allen (Angela Mueller) Counties joined START leadership to discuss the role of peer support in engaging families affected by co-occurring substance use disorder and child maltreatment.

START Success Story

Meigs County

The Meigs START team enrolled a family in December 2022.  Both mom and dad were dealing with substance use disorder and were homeless. Mom went to inpatient treatment immediately upon enrolling and dad began outpatient treatment. Their son started in foster care but was soon reunified with mom in inpatient treatment. Dad found full-time employment and was able to maintain sobriety while mom completed inpatient treatment. Once mom graduated from inpatient treatment, the family was able to find an apartment and move in together. The case closed successfully this month with the family reunified with stable income and housing.
