Stay Certified, Stay Ahead: Secure Your Transition to the Proposed New Board of CV Medicine

While we wait for a decision from the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) regarding the joint application for the creation of a new, independent American Board of Cardiovascular Medicine, it is critical that all clinicians continue to maintain certification through the existing process using the Collaborative Maintenance Pathway (CMP), or other approved ABIM options. Maintaining certification is vital should ABMS approve the new board. Lapsed certifications will not transition, placing those individuals at a disadvantage that will likely result in the need to pass a certification exam again. By staying current, individuals will be well-positioned for a seamless transition and fully prepared for whatever changes may come. Learn more about the proposed new Board at CVBoard.org. For more information on the CMP and other current MOC options, visit ACC.org/MOC.

ACC Committee Nominations Open

Nominations for available positions on ACC, National Cardiovascular Data Registry (NCDR), and Accreditation Services Committees are now being accepted until Friday, September 13. Interested applicants or nominators are encouraged to review the open positions and may self-nominate or nominate a colleague using the Committee Nominations Portal. Applicants will be notified of results by the end of 2024. ACC’s committee nomination process is an important opportunity to continue to increase diversity at the College and include various perspectives spanning across the entire profession. The Nominating Committee strongly encourages applicants from a diversity of backgrounds, cultures, specialties, practice settings, and career stages. For a list of frequently asked questions and application tips please visit the Committee Nominations FAQs. For additional information, email committees@acc.org.

Quick Hits

Mark your calendars – ACC’s Legislative Conference is taking place Sept. 29 – Oct. 1 in Washington, DC! This signature ACC Advocacy event provides members with opportunities to learn about health policy issues affecting patients and the profession from ACC staff, member leaders and other health policy experts. On the last day of the conference, members will meet with congressional offices to help lawmakers understand the impact their legislative decisions have on the future of cardiovascular care. Fellows in training and early career professionals will have the opportunity to apply for travel awards to attend. Registration will be available in the coming weeks. For any questions about Legislative Conference, please do not hesitate to reach out to advocacyleg@acc.org.

In the meantime, check out the ACC Advocate Checklist to stay engaged with advocacy year-round. There are so many ways to get involved in advocacy to help transform cardiovascular care and the ACC Advocate checklist makes it easy to get started. From engaging with your peers to participating in the political process through meetings with lawmakers, this checklist covers all key components that go into a successful advocacy strategy. Checklist activities will be tracked through a form that will be sent out monthly to individuals who sign up to participate. ACC Advocates who complete the checklist will be recognized for their accomplishment at Legislative Conference and in various ACC publications!

If you are interested in participating or have any questions about the checklist, please reach out to Ryan Moore (rmoore@acc.org).
