Offense or Defense?
In team sports you need both a good offense and a good defense to be successful.
Usually a team tends to be more known for their offense or their defense- although emphasizing both.
Greetings!
In the Christian life it is important to have both also. Are you most known for your defense or offense of proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ?

Hopefully this " OFFENSE OR DEFENSE" email newsletter will be of great encouragement to you personally

DEFENSE:
Defending our faith comes with the territory in the world we live in that is often opposed to Christianity

1 Peter 3:15 , which says that believers are to make a defense, "for the hope that you have." The only way to do this effectively is to study the reasons why we believe what we believe. This will prepare us to " demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ,” as Paul said we should ( 2 Corinthians 10:5 ). Paul practiced what he preached; in fact, defending the faith was his regular activity ( Philippians 1:7 ).

OFFENSE:
The Word gives great insights into being on the
offense in the spread of the Gospel

*Please note some of the key words in the following verses on how to be on the OFFENSE...

PRAY
BE ALERT
SPEAK
EVERY OPPORTUNITY
RIGHT ANSWER

"Be persistent in prayer, and keep alert as you pray, giving thanks to God. At the same time pray also for us, so that God will give us a good opportunity to preach his message about the secret of Christ. For that is why I am now in prison. Pray, then, that I may speak, as I should, in such a way as to make it clear.  Be wise in the way you act toward those who are not believers, making good use of every opportunity you have. Your speech should always be pleasant and interesting, and you should know how to give the right answer to everyone."
Colossians 4:2‭-‬6
BASKETBALL-
As a one year college basketball player there was no question I was much better on "offense" than defense...I absolutely loved offense.

SPREAD OF THE GOSPEL-
Without question I love to be on" offense" with the GOOD NEWS of JESUS CHRIST... rather than endlessly debating over areas like creation, resurrection and the Word of God. I don't have doubts on those words and areas of faith in Christ... but rather prefer to, at the appropriate time, move the conversation to..."Can I give you my personal testimony?" In 50 years of witnessing no one has ever said "NO...I don't want to hear your testimony"!!!
THE CHURCH IN AMERICA... is defense dominant and being lopsided to the point of being greatly imbalanced...sadly where we live, move and have our being has very little offense...

A KEY WITNESS INSIGHT

Knowledge puffs up but the humble testimony of being a forgiven sinner draws people to the salvation message because they are a captive audience... "All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God "

As Paul said near the end of his life "I am chief of sinners"...he was a forceful speaker and abounded with humility.
What a role model- he was often on DEFENSE but daily on the OFFENSE with the GOOD NEWS of JESUS
On the OFFENSE ...
the one two punch!
1-your testimony and
2- the Word of God

Your testimony is so important provided that it includes:

1-Your life before Christ
2-How and when you claimed Jesus as your Savior and
3-What has happened since

The WORD (Scripture) never returns void and should be
used at a minimum as a part of point #3
I WONDERED?

Since this is clearly the way to be on the OFFENSE ...

WHY DON'T MORE BELIEVERS GIVE THEIR TESTIMONIES and QUOTE RELEVANT SCRIPTURE?

In America
the problem of getting the GOOD NEWS OF JESUS CHRIST OUT is described perfectly in Revelation 3:14-22
...lukewarm believers- neither hot nor cold, who are rich and wealthy and don't need a thing- but they are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked...the Lord says I'm going to spit you out if my mouth (vomit)...repentance is essential and then...
...DO SOMETHING POSITIVE ABOUT THE PROBLEM

Presently in our WB class at church we are encouraging 3 different people each week to give their two minute testimonies

WHAT IS A WELL DONE TESTIMONY ?
MAKE IT PERSONAL.. .
be humble and honor Jesus who has given you victory over sin and death...and has given you a purpose for living as directed by the Word of God

1-CLEARLY explain your life before you came to Christ (unique to each person)

2-CLEARLY explain how you came to the place of claiming Jesus Christ as your Savior...explain your need and understanding of a Savior from sin and death

3-CLEARLY tell how Jesus has made a difference in your life and how you want to live for Him...quote a verse that means a lot to you and why the Bible is your guide to the abundant life

MY ENCOURAGEMENT TO YOU...when appropriate be in defense of the GOSPEL

"ALL" the rest of the time be on the offense because you have
the GOOD NEWS
of JESUS CHRIST...there is nowhere else where people can know they are forgiven of all their sins of thought, word and deed, omission and commission...plus gain eternal life... and through the WORD and the Holy Spirit know the past, present and future..
to God be the glory

Blessings,
Ted
