News and Notes from Neddy

Editor's note: As many of our readers are already aware, just as we were "going to press" with this October, 2018 issue, our Executive Director, Neddy Latimer experienced an urgent health crisis which resulted in her hospitalization and medical leave of absence from the Center. At this time we are happy to report that her condition has stabilized and we, her Staff, Board and Volunteers continue to carry out the goals, mission and important work that the Center provides to our clients and community.

As a result of this, the SAC Board is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Miguel Mickey Guzman as temporary interim Director to oversee day to day management of Spanish American Center issues so that Neddy may focus on her rest and complete her recovery as quickly as possible. Mr. Guzman is well known to most through his many years of dedicated work at the Center, his civic involvement in Rotary Club, his youth soccer coaching and his family music and sound system MC work. In addition, Mickey has been the staff liaison for the SAC Board of Directors, keeping accurate minutes recording each and every board meeting and agenda. Mickey has been acutely aware of the needs of his clients through his position as both Information and Referral specialist and caseworker for the Elders Program at the Center (both of which he will continue to direct through this transition).

Mickey can be reached at the Center M-F at 978-534-3145. If you wish to send get well wishes to Neddy, they may be sent c/o info@spanishamericancenter.org or to the Center at 112 Spruce Street, Leominster, MA 01453. Your support means a great deal to us all!

Sincerely,

Spanish American Center Staff, Board and Volunteers

Hispanic Leaders Recognized
Hispanic leaders from across the Commonwealth, including our own Neddy Latimer, were honored and recognized for their civic contributions at a special ceremony at the State House in Boston on October 3, 2018.
We thank Representative Natalie Higgins for her nomination of Neddy Latimer for this award! Congratulations to Neddy and to our other Hispanic leaders. Princeton Moms reach out to SAC!
Ms. Gretchen Aubuchon, at right, is shown delivering some of her thoughtful donations to the Center, thus transforming our conference room, when not in use, to a children's activity area -- to keep young children busy during waiting times while their parents receive services. We sincerely thank Gretchen for these activity and snack ideas, as well as for organizing a parent group of her friends in Princeton who will help with ongoing donations! A busy mother of three, Gretchen shares her talents with the Center and is a much welcomed addition to our fund raising committee.
