Repealing Prince George's breed ban is a contact sport.  Make contact, get involved.
Here's what's been going on in the last few weeks and what is coming up.
September:  The Appeal Begins
Thanks to EVERYONE who joined the Appeal to Repeal kickoff at the end of August.  Despite some technical glitches which we've worked out for future call-ins, we still had a huge turnout at the opening meeting in Riverdale Park.  Great discussions about how to get started and where we are heading.

A lot has happened already--the momentum is growing!  Remember--change won't take ALL of your time, but it will take a little bit of everyone's so we hope you will all grab those opportunities to repeal the ban as often as you can.  When you see a CALL FOR ACTION Facebook post or e-lert in your inbox--take action!  Ending BSL is a contact sport so stay in contact with us AND your elected officials whenever you can.  And we'll keep in touch with you too. Have a look down this page for September highlights and what's on tap for October which, coincidentally, is also National Pit Bull Awareness Month.

Stay in the loop!  Tell your friends, neighbors and fellow dog owners--spread the word!

Councilmember & Constituent Meetings

Federation members have had extremely  positive and productive face-to-face September
meetings with Councilmembers Todd Turner of District 4 and Dannielle Glaros of Distr ict 3 !  On October 6th at 7pm we'll be meeting with CM Deni Taveras --Please join us at Big Bad Woof if you live in District 2!

Great news - at this time it looks like we have three councilmembers who would say YES to repeal--one would consider introducing the legislation. We need at least FIVE, preferably SIX votes to pass a law.  We're halfway there!

So let's keep on this!  If you have yet to contact your councilmember, this is a perfect opportunity to do so.  If you are in Districts 1, 5, 6, 7, 8, or 9, encourage your councilperson to meet with us and ask them to please support legislation to repeal the ban. If you live in District 2, 3 or 4, thank your legislator for supporting repeal by email or a phone call.

General Council Schedule

Typically speaking, the Prince George's County Council begins its session in January and goes until August.  From about March to June is "the budget slam" when it concentrates on producing the budget for the upcoming fiscal year.  Council is generally out of session for the summer and comes back in session in September until the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. It is out of session from Thanksgiving week to New Year's week.  While we are current in the end of session, our goal is to set the stage for introducing legislation to repeal at the start of next session.  The work we do now is critical to our future success!
