🏢 From the Sonoma 4-H Office

We are pleased to announce Shelley Ferina as the new 4-H Community Education Specialist for Sonoma County. She is a Sonoma County native, growing up in Penngrove, where she was an active 4-H club member for twelve years, serving as club officer and Jr. Team Leader while participating in various projects including raising market swine. She was also a Future Farmers of America member for four years where she competed on several teams, attended leadership conferences, and earned a state title in the Agroscience Research program. She is no stranger to the benefits of 4-H and agricultural education to youth development, and she immerses herself in supporting those involved including her family and friends.

Shelley has over twenty-two years of valuable experience with the state and county judicial systems, including Sonoma County Probation and Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office where she participated through both agencies in community outreach and engagement events, while continuing to volunteer with Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office.

Shelley is excited to join us in this position and is looking forward to putting into practice her knowledge and experience from the 4-H program, sharing and educating the community in hopes of growing the program and continuing to make the best better.

🍀 4-H Council: President's Message

Fall is upon us and the pumpkin spice is exploding all around the county!! Welcome spider webs, gourds, ghouls and goblins, we've missed you!

First, I want to say how much I have enjoyed visiting your club meetings so far. I absolutely love seeing the many different ways meetings are organized, and talking to the kids and parents. You've all been so welcoming and I appreciate it so much! Thank you for having me!!

Second, I want to thank those of you who attended for coming to Achievement Night! It was a great night and your All Stars worked their tails off (see what I did there...?!) to make it special.  Congratulations to all of you! We hope each year will grow as you all work toward making the best better.

Speaking of achievements, let's talk Proficiencies...your I&R Committee has been asking for help updating the proficiencies for years with little response. I absolutely acknowledge that our county list is lacking in both quantity and being up to date, but we need your help to get on track! I was impressed with the number of proficiencies that had been earned across the county!  I noticed many members had earned proficiencies that do not exist on our county website list. If your club is awarding proficiencies that are not on the county list, please send your documentation of how those awards were determined to Ellen Johnson and myself ASAP. The I&R Committee will align those documents with the county standard (if they aren't already) and post them on the county website for everyone to use. Thank you so much for your help!!

I'd also like to thank Liberty 4-H for completing the twist ties for the Starcross Foundation! We had a whole box left that didn't get picked up at the CCC meeting and Liberty 4-H helped out by completing them while the All Stars were planning Achievement night one evening. Thank you!! And thank you to each of you in all the other clubs who helped in this annual community service as well!

And if you missed your chance to meet Shelley Ferina, our new 4-H Admin Aide, please join me in welcoming her to the team! She got to meet a lot of you at Achievement Night, which was awesome!

Lots of stuff coming up, so keep your email eyes open for more updates! See you soon! Thank you for all you do to keep our 4-H Clubs thriving!

Sara

🌟 All Star Report 🌟

Hello everyone I hope that you are having a spooky start to fall.  Let's start with a joke quick: Do you know when cows turn into werewolves?  During a full Moooooon of course, I am Angel Lopez one of the three 2023-2024 Sonoma County 4-H All-Star Ambassadors.  I would like to make some quick announcements.  We have Achievement Night coming up on October 28 doors open at 6, and the ceremony begins at 6:30.  Achievement Night is also when the first half of our year-round Valley of the Moon community service event is due.  The club with the most stuffed animals donated will receive a surprise party that we are excited about.  The winners for this community service party will be announced at achievement night, so make sure to be there!!! This last month we have attended 4 total club installations, being Anadell, Canfield, Green Valley, and Pengrove 4-H.  If you would like us to install your chapter officers let us know at our email

2023 Achievement Night

It was a wild time at Achievement Night 2023! The Sonoma 4-H County Ambassadors, their advisors, and volunteers, put together an amazing evening celebrating 4-H members' accomplishments, the 4-H program volunteers, and our community partners. This event also saw the return of proficiencies being announced at the event. This was a great event with nearly every club represented with posters!

Special thanks to the YAL Center for hosting this event (and so many 4-H events!)!

If you earned an award but couldn't attend the event, pins will be distributed to club leaders in the November CCC meeting on 11/7.

4-H RPC will be sharing some of the photos of the event through our club leader google drive by 11/8/2023

Halloween Outreach

The 4-H staff and 4-H volunteers participated in two community events in Santa Rosa.

Trunk or Treat 2023 and Halloween at Howarth. Through these events, we promoted 4-H community clubs, camps, and next spring's soccer and STEM programs.

This was a great opportunity to remind the community of the great things 4-H has to offer and recruit new families to 4-H.

The 4-H office has marketing kits that your club can use to promote programs around your community via a community event or even a school based meeting like a PTA meeting .
