AWARDS

AIA Maryland Excellence In Design Award Winner
Woodley Park House and Garden recently won a Merit AIA Maryland Excellence In Design Award. The Jury complimented a seemingly small renovation with huge transformative impact. They loved the layering of spaces along the visual axis from the front door to the backyard.
Working from the outside in, the design began by fitting a new pool and terrace into a rocky sloped rear yard.  A new central stairway connects a more private upper level deck and lets natural light flood the interior.

Washingtonian Residential Design Award Winner
AIA DC Chapter Design Award Winner
Hutner Porch & Pool   has won a 2018 Washingtonian Residential Architecture Award as well as an AIA DC Chapter Design Award. A huge thanks to AIA DC and Washingtonian for this recognition. Congratulations to all of the award winners who are featured in the most recent edition of   Washingtonian Magazine

The Greencourt Innovation Center was once just 3 warehouses. Today, it is intended to be a catalyst in the redevelopment of an existing warehouse district in Rockville Maryland. The area is a new technology hub for the county. The GreenCourt Innovation Center has received LEED Gold certification.

The 20,000 square foot space is walkable with a green roof, reused materials, and is optimized for energy efficiency.

CONSTRUCTION

The Watergate Lobbies
Designed by noted post-war Italian architect Luigi Moretti , the Watergate Complex design began in 1960 and construction was completed in 1971. The first building, Watergate East , was formally dedicated in October 1965.

McInturff Architects is thrilled to have been selected to renovate the existing East Lobby of the Watergate Residential complex. Working with contractor, Added Dimensions , surviving original Moretti details are being preserved and in some cases extended, while new detailing involves materials, fabrication and technology that would not have been available to Moretti in 1966, but he certainly would have embraced.

The six building/six owner, mixed-use complex has three residential buildings, each with their own lobbies. We were asked to renovate the public spaces of Watergate East, a co-op with split lobbies on Virginia Avenue that flank and bookend the main entry to the site and center public courtyard.

Multiple renovations of both lobbies have occurred in the years since Moretti’s work was completed. We sought to reconnect the lobbies to the exterior of the buildings through geometry, materials and lighting, and to bring them back to the spirit of the original detail.

When finished, these two important lobbies that flank the main entrance to the complex will once again be an extension of the fluid architectural language Moretti planned almost 60 years ago.

The construction is scheduled to finish this year.
