Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Disparities in Breast Cancer Mortality

(October 1st - October 31st)

According to the CDC, Breast cancer deaths in the United States are decreasing; however, disparities persist among racial and ethnic groups. Non-Hispanic Black women have the highest death rates, with only small improvements over the years. In contrast, non-Hispanic White women have shown more significant reductions in breast cancer death rates. These findings stress the ongoing disparities in breast cancer death rates, especially among non-Hispanic Black women, and emphasize the need to reduce these disparities.

World Mental Health Day

Diversity & Mental Health

(October 10th)

While mental health affects all populations, communities of color face higher rates of mental health issues due to limited access to culturally responsive care, racism, and historical medical trauma. Research suggests that the adult Black community is 20% more likely to experience serious mental health problems such as Major Depressive Disorder or Generalized Anxiety Disorder due to systemic barriers. We recognize Mental Health Day for individuals struggling with mental illness.
