October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and it's important to spread awareness to fund research, treatment, and a cure. This month's theme is "Living Beyond Breast Cancer."
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), in 2020, female breast cancer became the most commonly diagnosed cancer type globally. About 2.26 million women were diagnosed with breast cancer, and approximately 685,000 women died from the disease.
In 2022, "an estimated 290,560 new cases of invasive breast cancer are expected to be diagnosed in the U.S., along with 51,400 new cases of non-invasive breast cancer. An estimated 43,780 people will lose their lives to metastatic breast cancer (LBBC)." Breast cancer affects not just the person who receives the diagnosis, but their loved ones as well.
