GO WITH SUCCESS! GO WITH DENISE LANG
Hello dear friends and clients,

As I write this, I am planning my casserole for the the food frenzy at "Tamarack Time." This event is a Bigfork tradition. It's a tasty experience, a way to catch up with friends after a busy summer and a great fundraiser to keep our little village perking. Here is something from our friends at Fidelity that I thought I would share with you. Fun facts about October (click here) . To my October Libra and Scorpio friends....Happy Birthday!

The Village is always improving! Our Bigfork public dock (left) may be getting a bit of a face lift. The Bigfork Community Development Foundation is providing a grant for landscaping upgrades to the area. (Photo Credit: Teagan E. Keith )

Testimonial
My mother recently sold her home in Bigfork and Denise Lang was her Real estate agent. I am so thankful we had her on our team and am sure we wouldn't have had the same outcome with any other agent. Just before the sale my mom had a medical emergency and was hospitalized for an extended amount of time. Denise fought hard to negotiate the best deal and kept mom and family members informed every step of the way. We were able to focus her knowing that the sale of her home was in such capable hands. I would highly recommend Denise to anyone selling or buying a home in the Bigfork area. We learned first hand how important it is to have a strong agent with integrity and grit on your side when selling or buying a home!  K. Denise's Kitchen Corner...Cranberry Pecan Pumpkin Bread
As the fall chill is in the air, what could be better than a slice of warm spicy Pumpkin bread right out of the oven? I have been making this recipe for years, it is always yummy and suits any occasion.

Ingredients
1 cup white flour
¾ cup whole wheat four
¼ tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
½ tsp salt
¾ tsp ground nutmeg
¾ tsp ground cloves
¾ tsp ground cinnamon
1 cup canned pumpkin
1 cup white sugar
¾ cup brown sugar
½ cup oil
2 eggs
1 cup chopped pecans
1 cup chopped dried cranberries

How to Make It
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour a 9-by-5 inch loaf pan. In a small bowl mix flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, nutmeg, cloves and cinnamon. In a large bowl beat the eggs until mixed, add the oil, sugar and pumpkin and mix together. Add flour mixture to the pumpkin mixture and stir until well mixed. Fold in the nuts and chopped cranberries. If you have additional pecans or cranberries place them on the top of the batter. Pour into prepared loaf pan. Bake for 1 hour. This bread freezes well. Makes one loaf.
Denise's Book Corner... The Canterville Ghost by Oscar Wilde of Repose
I read this as a high school student. With this coming season and Brexit in the news, I was prompted to pick up this English novella again. Oscar Wilde wrote this as a series of short stories in 1887 yet the themes are still relevant and delightful. The parodies of cultures (American/English) are done with a light, humorous hand and they still ring true...bluntness vs. social grace, commercialism vs. tradition, exuberance vs reserve.

The story centers around a ghost who had haunted his family castle for hundreds of years until the Otis family moves in. This very American family are portrayed with a fancy for materialism and American super products. They are ignorant of English etiquette possessing very "unsophisticated tastes." Wilde pits the image of the patriotic Americans (their children are named Washington and Virginia) against the British esteem of tradition.

Enter the ghost who (traditionally) used to be very successful at terrorizing the home's inhabitants until this family arrives. They just don't give him the respect he feels he deserves. This humiliates him and he declares, "no ghost in history had ever been treated in this manner."

The back and forth antics between the ghost and the family and the children's involvement is sweet, a little scary and amusing. This little book makes a good Halloween story for the whole family. My favorite part is Virginia's empathy. She feels she must "weep for him because he has no tears and pray for him because he has no faith."
