Welcome to a brand-new board year!

It seems a bit odd to be ushering in a new year when our calendar year is coming to a close. It’s a time to be both excited about exploring new ways to grow and BE as a chapter, as well as reflect on the year behind us, personally and professionally. The impending holidays can also open us up to a slew of emotions, especially when retailers start playing Christmas music before we’ve had time to don our Halloween costumes or power through our third helping of sweet potatoes. Depending on your perspective, it either fills you with joy or makes you crazy and there’s rarely an in between.

But going back to the matter at hand… a new board year! My EWI focus for the year seems simple enough in theory: improve our communications. We have a great story to tell. We’ve all seen first-hand the work that we’ve done in the community, the lives that we’ve changed, the connections that we’ve made, and the careers that we’ve enhanced and strengthened. So why keep that to ourselves? Let’s try to use every opportunity to share our story with local professionals who are looking for that something extra in their lives to round out their careers. Be sure to share our upcoming social media posts with your networks. Forward our meeting invites to your connections. Talk up our philanthropic and fundraising initiatives with your friends and colleagues. Be a voice for the chapter every opportunity you have. Share your personal journey with others. As I learned at our most recent LCAM, we are stronger together.

And as we tackle this new board year together, I would be remiss if I didn’t offer this little reminder: Lives get busy, work gets overwhelming, and commitments easily become all-consuming. So, be sure to pause and take moments for yourself. Breathe. Enjoy the little things. As a great philosopher once said: “Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.” ~ Ferris Bueller 😉

Respectfully,

Mueller Communications (member firm hosting)

Caterer: Smoke Shack (member firm Benson's Restaurant Group)

Our August EWI meeting was held at the offices of member firm, Mueller Communications. It was our pleasure to hear a presentation by Renee Martin, VP of Business Development and Leadership Coach & Trainer for Dale Carnegie. The interactive presentation was fun and informative. Following her presentation, winners of this year's Designer Handbag Raffle were announced. Special thanks to Ginny and the Fundraising Committee for this fantastic idea!

Krueger Communications, Inc. (member firm hosting)

Caterer: Mission BBQ

Our September EWI meeting was a busy one. During our networking time, we toured the Krueger buildings which include the historic former home of Patrick Cudahy and the newly renovated Operations Center. Delicious food from Mission BBQ and homemade deserts were enjoyed before a presentation by Matt Wellner, Director of Sales and Client Experience at KCI. His presentation on cybersecurity was very engaging. We could have kept going all evening with our questions for Matt, but it was also our business meeting and there was work to get done.

University Club as a guest of Cory Nettles, Generation Growth Capital (member firm)

Caterer: University Club Upscale Taco Bar

The October meeting was an extra special one! After networking and enjoying an upscale taco bar dinner, we had two very special guests: Cory Nettles of Generation Growth Capital and his wife, Michelle Nettles, of ManpowerGroup. Facilitated by Ginny Czarnecki, representative of member firm Mueller Communications, Cory and Michelle discussed their views and experiences on "The Impact of Remote/Flexible Work Schedules". Following the presentation, the 2023-2024 EWI Milwaukee Board was installed.
