Oscar-Nominated Film, Hidden Figures, Inspires Ground-Breaking State Department Exchange Program
|
Hidden Figures
depicts the inspiring, untold stories of three female, African-American mathematicians who were instrumental in helping NASA put a man into space. Since its premier in 2016, the Oscar-nominated film has captivated audiences around the world and put a spotlight on women leaders in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).
Prompted by the international community's overwhelming response to the film, the U.S. Department of State created a ground-breaking exchange, #HiddenNoMore, through its International Visitor Leadership Program, bringing women in STEM careers from nearly 50 countries to the United States. During the month of October, these women will tour the country and meet with organizations and individuals that promote women and girls' participation in STEM. IVCLA is proud to have arranged the women's final meetings in Los Angeles, where the program concludes on October 28th.
Through this program, IVCLA hopes to build on the momentum
that has already been created by the film and encourage continued discussion around increasing the representation of women and minorities in STEM.

Welcome New Projects Coordinator!
|
Allison Yang graduated from the University of Southern California with a degree in Art History. Although she still loves the arts, she felt her professional interests lay in international politics and chose to transition from a career in museums to one in foreign affairs. She is excited to work as a Projects Coordinator at IVCLA where she will be able to build international understanding by cultivating connections in the global community. During her free time, she volunteers at the Echo Park Library where she tutors an ESL student and teaches a writing class. She enjoys traveling, reading, visiting museums, and brewing her own kombucha.
