October 2023 Newsletter

To give aid and encouragement in promoting the education and welfare of at-risk children in the state of Georgia.

Hello Circle Members!

On Sunday October 1st, we hosted a new member recruitment party at the home of Susan Fulkerson. Being there reminded me of the value we bring to one another and to our shared mission within The Circle!

We have a busy month ahead of us and there are lots of great activities happening in October where you can engage with the Circle.

Kristen has been working VERY hard to make our Golf Tournament on October 23rd a success. She has gotten a few sponsors and now needs your help to get more sponsors and especially more golfers to play. As members of The Circle, we all need to rally to make this tournament A SUCCESS!

Additionally, mark your calendars for our fall general meeting at Baraonda in Sandy Springs on Wednesday, October 11 at 11:00 am. This will be a can’t miss experience!

In addition to these two important meetings, we have other ways to spend TIME with your Circle friends. We will be doing the Oakland Cemetery Tour as a social event, there are two different opportunities to do hands on volunteering at City of Refuge this month (one during the day and one in the evening) and we are taking a trip up to Tallulah Falls!

Last but not least get your membership forms and dues in, so that you will not miss being in the directory which will be updated at the end of this month!!!

Warm regards,

Kristin Gross Harbison

If you would like to pay your dues online follow these steps:

  • Click this link to get started: https://www.circle4children.org/payment.html
  • Select 2023-2024 Membership Dues and click "Add to Cart"
  • This will open a Paypal window. You can either continue to check out from there, or close the window to add addtional donations to your cart (like Auction buying fund or children's needs donations). CLOSING THE WINDOW WITH YOUR CART WILL NOT REMOVE YOUR DUES.
  • Back in the payment screen, you can add as many additional donations as you would like (you can even add your August meeting payment!)
  • From there you will use Paypal to check out with payment via credit card.

We all had a fantastic time at the Bunco social hosted by Martha Altieri. Thank you Martha for having us in your beautiful home. We did make up some of the rules as we went along, but raised $210 for City of Refuge; thanks to donations and Sally Davis donating her winnings.

Make sure you try to attend at least one of the Socials this year!! It is a great way to meet new members, catch up with long time members and support The Circle for Children!

Any questions or recommendations for other socials contact Cindy Formica.

Back to our Roots: Tallulah Falls Tour

Great News!!! We are planning a trip to Tallulah Falls on Saturday, October 21 (so our working members can attend).

We will leave around 9:00 am, make a scenic trip up to North Georgia, have an informative tour of Tallulah Falls, have a fun lunch and return home around 2:30.

The staff and everyone there are all lovely, hard working people and are so appreciative of The Circle and what we have done for them and continue to do for them and their students. It will be a meaningful trip for us all.

A little about our history and start at Tallulah Falls:

Since 1927, the women of the Circle for Children have dedicated themselves to giving financial and personal assistance to at-risk youth in Georgia. “The Young Matrons Circle for Tallulah Falls School” was established when the late Mrs. Preston Arkwright and Mrs. John Ottley left the heat of Atlanta to visit their summer cottages in the North Georgia mountains. There they became acquainted with the one room school house founded and owned by the Georgia Federation of Women’s Clubs in 1909.

If you would like to attend the Tallulah Falls Tour, please click the link below or contact Janie Kissling to sign up!
